$30 for shipping @ filter guys ????????

finally scraped together some cash to buy a
$ 199.00 - OCEAN REEF + 1 FIVE STAGE 75 GPD RO/DI... after convincing my wife to let me spend $200, i went to order it and it added $30 bucks for shipping. geeze !!! is there sales tax too????
anyone know if filter guys ever runs specials on shipping or otherwise ?
money is real tight right now getting permission for $200 was a task in itself

Well, it is a 20lb box. I know this, because I had one delivered about 3 days ago and that was the labeled weight (actually 19.7lbs). And it was in a good quality box with a metric buttload of peanuts and bubble wrap.

I've always gotten refunds of overpayment from the Filter Guys without asking. If the shipping estimate you're charged is grossly over the actual cost, I bet they refund the difference. $30 doesn't sound unreasonable for a well packed RO/DI unit though, and I'm sure they've shipped enough to know the cost.

Just curious what was ur shipping cost with buckeye? I am an eBay seller so I to am aware of shipping costs.
Marinedepot charges a third that to ship there units.

you do live in california. filter guys are in duluth mn. why dont you go onto ups or what ever shipper you like and get an estimate on how much it is to ship a 20lb box.

That might have something to do with the fact that Marine Depot is only about 5 hours south of you, not 2/3rds of the way across the country. You'd also have to pay sales tax with MD.

For a 20lb box, and that distance, $30 doesn't sound unreasonable.

You are better off with one on ebay from Bulkreef supply for 130 shipped, 5 stage DI, 5micron, i have one and i couldn't happier.

I think they do that to ensure it covers the weight.

honestly, you can't beat the price of either the filter guyz or buckeye filed supply, cheap doesnt mean good. i had the one from BFS and my water had been 0 for a very long time now, quality over price for me.

Guys guys, I am not trying to start a debate on price, I know from reading that it is a good product, that is why i saved up for it, I just want to know if like most other sellers online, does filter guys ever have sales/specials where they ship free or something of that nature?
BTW I am also a regular Big Als online shopper which is located across the country. They also ship to calif. for reasonable rates.

marine depot used to be no sales tax for internet orders period.
now , ca residents must remember to enter coupon code nocaltax, otherwise, you still get charged sales tax.

I checked shipping on one of their 5 stage setups to san jose and it was $15ish. If money is super tight, maybe a 4 stage can do what you need done and save initial/replacement filter costs.
I like both BRS and Marine Depot, but BRS has some quality videos that may help you in your decisions as to what you really need.

I too asked about such discounts or so forth and was told they do not do them. It never hurts to ask though. May catch them on a giving day. Bought mine from Buckeye Field Supply.
