30 Gallon Cube Reef tank

Hi All:

I would like a recommendation of a return pump for my 30 gallon reef tank that I am setting up. I know zero about this so please back up any and all recommendations.

How high do you need to pump? You generally want a return that can run the tank volume through the sump 3-5 times per hour. You will need additional flow for the tank from powerheads or a closed loop.

Hi Roger:

Looks like four feet. Seems like the 1073.20 will do this comfortably? Return diameter will be 3/4". Sump water level will be 9"!

Btw..what is a closed loop?

At 5' the 1073.020 should do about 198gph which should work out well.

Closed loops are systems where water from the display is drained directly into the pump intake and then returned without a sump involved.
