30 or 40 breeder frag tank sitting on a mirror?

What do you guys think about this...

These ideas pop into my head from time to time and I would appreciate some feed back.

So this morning the thought hit me to tie a frag tank into my 300 gallon. I'd run it off the main manifold and drill a simple overflow box. I have the perfect location for it on the other side of the wall where the 300 would be. It would actually be going in an armoir that is currently used for storing blankets and pillows and such. Oh my girl is gonna love hearing this when she gets home... The shoe closet I built her is slowly turning into a fish room. Haha, sorry honey!

I'd like to hear some feedback as to the pros and cons of a 30 breeder vs a 40 breeder as a frag tank. I would think the 30 would be better because of the lower height. Then I got to thinking what if I set the tank on a mirror. Being that it would be bb the mirror would provide even more light, especially under some of the more dense bracnching corals. Anyone see any problem doing that?

Thanks in advance.

I'm curious as to what people will think, I had an idea similar to this but was told if I put it in a closet (my only open space) the evaporation may cause mildew/mold on the clothes and walls of the closet. I'll be tagging along to see what ideas get tossed around here!

Bare bottoms get mucked up pretty quick. It took about a month for mine to start being covered with coraline algae. I don't think the mirror would help much, and might make the frag tank look a little odd. If you decide to go that route, I would look into mirrored acrylic, it bends and would be much more forgiving to any settling or slightly off-level stand.

I would go with the 30 breeder for a frag tank. the 40B at almost 18" high does not give the best usable footprint for a frag tank. My frag tank is 18x18x12 and still has enough height to have frags on magnet racks above frags on the bottom.

For any evaporation concerns, a small exhaust fan that constantly brought in less humid air would help prevent any mold issues.

I loved my 40 breeder frag tank. I loved the dimensions I make levels with frag racks. I fit a lot of coral in that tank.

As far as the mirror the issue would be to keep the bottom clean. Other then that I thought of this a while back for even the sides and back of the tank 2 again how to keep it all clean to let the idea work is the issue

So I'll have to think about this whole mirror idea. The question is obvious, do I want to scrape coralline algae?

As for the humidity in the armoire, I'll likely add an exhaust fan and as you can see there's an a/c return duct right next to it that should help.

Finally, I've found something to do with this armoire. It's been sitting there as storage because the bedroom wasn't wide enough for both my bed and armoire. Plus I like the TV wall mounted anyway.

In regards to the tank, Petco's $1 per gallon sale made this decision easy. 40 it is. They don't have a sku for a 30 breeder.

So Petco IS having the dollar per gallon sale?!? This is the greatest thing I've heard all day to be honest..glad I was following this post :p
