I debated putting this in the DIY forum, but it is a 300, and a lot of you built your own stands, so.....

I have decided to go with wood instead of metal. I am sorta at a loss as to the size of lumber and what would be the best joints to use, and where. About the only thing I am about set on, is using 3/4 ply on the top. Other than that, not sure what to use.

For those of you that have built your wood stands, would you please post a pic along with a description and materials. I am not worried about the sheeting, just the basic stand as it will be "in wall". It is a glass tank if that makes any difference.

Thanks all,
JR

Hey,

Ive built all my previous tank stands, and even my 300 gal frontosa tank out of wood. I have always used 2x4's and 3/4" ply on top. You can follow the DIY stand plans on www.garf.org for more detailed pics. You can easily use 4x4 but doubling up 2x4's was always cheaper for me and also provided more stregnth. I would build the top and botoom frame and then connect legs on insides, four across front and back and then add additional 2x4 pcs that actually make contact between top and bottom frame, this is seen in pics on garf. Again this is just what i did and it worked for me may not work for everyone. Ill try and add a pic of the stand frame from when i built it.
