300 gallon work in progress

another day with alot of ups and downs.
i found out today that the hood is snug to fit under, i started filling the tank last night about 10 pm and it's been running since then, anyway i attched my vortech to the back of the tank and i could barely fit in from the front. then i when to plug it in and found out 2 of the 4 outlets need to be rewired at least i can crawl thou the tank stand
but hey it's not everyday you can dump a whole bucket of salt into a tank and that was really cool because i guessed at the time the tank was about half way full added the salt and about half an hour later i tested with my refractometer and it was right on.
i started adding rock but could see a thing so i pulled out my refuge light from an out tank and it fit right between the 2 center braces it's starting to look like a dream coming true

long day of work, bad week to be working middle shifts can't really get anything done before or after work, but the water is clearing up nicely and i can start to see where i'm placing my rocks, i didn't realize how many smaller rocks i have, and not alot of bigger peices.i did manage to make 2 nice caves so far,but i'm going have to go swimming to do the rockwork i want to do in the back.i took a break earlier and cleaned the water spots off the front panel and took a good look at the tank and realized how much nicer the starphire glass is.
i still need to get the outlets working before i get my sump back and finish my plumbing then the fun of leak testing hopelly there won't be any i sniffed enough glue mon and tues.

well today was the leak test i finished filling the tank (from the bulkheads up) and i'm in luck the tank is holding water and the ball values work i'll be picking up my sump tomoorow so i can finish the plumbing from the ball values to the sump and the returns i'm calling it an early night since i've gotten 12 hours sleep in 4 days and i have to be at work by 5am tomorrow but heres a couple pics.

there's alot more rock in now then before and i have a bag of carbon hanging in the water flow going to bye a few snails tomorrow and will see what happen from there.

it's been a few day's having plumbing issuses. i had to move the plumbing from under the tank to behind it.i thought i had everything ready to go and started the pump and it was ugly, the pump was really loud and flow and bubbles were massive.
so i unplugged it and need to wait till tomorrow to work out the kinks so i worked on putting lights on i got the 2 x 250mh on i'm waiting for a 400watt mh ballast and reflector to get here for the middle section anyway here's an updated pic

well the tank is running i had a few snails in there but i noticed i'm having my 1st algae outbreak, today i took a trip to somethingfishy and got some cleanup critters, 3 emerald crabs,3 peppermint shrimp and 2 fighting conches.till i can order a big order, and i changed my carbon and added some calc. and alk buffer.

i'm trying so hard to take this slow and my daughters begging me to buy fishes already, and boy was i temped to buy a giant red carpet anemone.i hope santa clause is listening

i got my balast and reflector for the middle of the tank and the ballast didn't have the cord to connect to the mogul socket and the reflector was the wrong 1.

well i played alittle more today, i hooked up my dosing pump, and i was going to frag some of the mushrooms i got at the last swap but turns out they fragged on there own, i found 3 loose mushrooms and stuck them in the corner of the new tank on a disc. just to see what happens.i'm not overly concerned as they should do well being that the rock as been in my other tanks for a few years. and i'll proboly be doing my first big water change in the next 2-3 days.

Looking good brad, I like the plumbing and how its turning out. I can't wait to see it with all the lights running and some fish swimming in there.

it was another sad day, everything was running great yesterday till my sump cracked,so i had to shut the tank down at least theres still flow going inside the tank.
i was planning on replacing the sump after the holidays anyway but i don't think that's happening now
i'm thinking about a 50 gallon breeder it's shorter and wider but i have to see what will fit under the stand right.
i did get the cord for my 400watt ballast,so now that's ready to go but i have to clean up the reflector a have 1st.

great tank...i saw on of these at ocean gallery...and immediately started saving my pennies. Did you drill the holes or did marineland do it for you?

I just subscibed to your thread...good luck ill be following along.

hey
well the light are coming on daily but only 1 of my 3 timers are working so i'm manaully turning them on and off.
i got a new sump today i went with the 50 gallon breeder fits much better then the 55 gal tank. i after to put some baffles in it now and finish up the plumbing hopefully i'll get it the way i like it all this time around.

i've had my mag 12 and my vortex pump running in the tank and did another water change on the tankand since the tank is looking good i put some live in the tank.i added 2 clowns and about half my frags from the swap.48 hours later everything is looking great. snails and conches are doing there jobs well.
when i get some time i'll update my pic's

i haven't updated this in awhile,i had the new sump up and running for about i week till i figured out that there was a leak somewhere i thought it was in the plumping, turns out it was the bulkhead that was cracked.so the mag 12 went back into the display. you wouldn't think finding a bulkhead locally would be so hard but i wound up ordering 1 online. in the meantime i guess it was a good thing this happened because when i pulled the sump out 1 of my baffles broke loose so i resilaconed it today. so that will be ready to go when the bulkhead gets here.

in the mean time before/during the time while the tank was running right i bought a wrasse, blue linkia and of course some sun polyps there like 2 colonies on 1 rock 1 side is orange and the other side is yellow and pushing out nightly so there happy.there in a cave with flow from the vortec pushing right by them.
i can't wait till i get the tank back together i have all my lights on timers now and the macro is growing pretty quickly i'll proboly need to thin it out soon (althought i still need some bugs i think there all still in my 29 gallon lol)which is doing well my daughter is taking care of that tank with my guidence, today she wanted to frag some things. she made 2 frags of green star polyps, and a frag of some zoo's that where growing fast in my tank. and the mushroom rock has dropped off about 8 mushrooms in the 29 galllon before i put them into my tank there attached nicely to a big rock for her.and the rock they came off of needs to be cut back. and of the 3 loose one's that i put in my display a while back i've found 2 of them attached to rubble (future frags for sale) i just wish i had more live in the tank. but these things pop up and this is why we go slow setting up a new tank. i'll try to get some updated pics soon.
