300dd cinder block question??

Im planning on buying a 300dd. However I hate the stand height, but dont want to build custom because 1) my doors are only 30" wide and 2) i want to keep the warranty in tact.

SO.. i seen my lfs put cinder blocks under the stand to raise the height. Just one layer. Is this safe for a tank this size?

Just to be clear i do not mean build a stand of cinder blocks, simply put a row of cinder blocks under the stand to give it an extra 8" of height. I think they will be strong enough, my house is made of cinder block and theyre holding up ok ;)

Cinder blocks might not be leveled and look crappy. Personally, I would build a platform and place the stand on the platform.

It is possible for the cinder blocks to fail if your stand has legs that will apply point pressure to one part of the block. I would for sure avoid siting any legs over one of the cavities. Consider something more solid like a 4x6 landscaping timber.

I agree with flooddc, build a platform to whatever height you want and place the stand on top of that.

BTW - I have a 300DD and use the stock stand. I also was skeptical of the height but after having the tank for over a year the height is perfect.

Cinder blocks will work, but won’t look good if exposed obviously. I have my 625g on cinder blocks with the top frame being metal. It’s all hidden behind a wall, I will dig up some pictures
