Stalled why? Five years ago bought a new for me but old house to reno, build my fish room and inwall display tank. Time that purchase with a over cost house reno, recession and having two kids the tank was stalled...

Thats a shot viewing the fish room and from the fish room where I'm installing a floor drain and water lines for a sink.

(I'll figure out hoe to post picture's better and keep add some more, cant get Photobucket to upload but the above pics suck)

You can just copy and paste the IMG code from photobucket. I totally understand the impact of the recession on your tank build. I'm just finally getting back on my feet from when the housing market crashed.

Your not alone 2008 crash FMOB i too am just getting back moving forward. I just built one part at a time and i am almost finished. Looking back it has been good for my thoughts and build!

Keep your chin up:)

Figured the pics out...

Fast forward to yesterday:

Just about to start to tile the wall in the fish room the tank in on.

The new tank is ordered and should be done in a couple weeks.
81 X 30 X 32 with Starphire front panel. Ordered from Custom Aquariums in Calgary, they have been great to deal with and build really nice tanks.

Equipment I have, it was good five years ago, maybe a little dated now...
Skimmer Deltec AP1003
Calcium Reactor Deltec 601
Phosphate Remover Deltec 509?
Ocean motions 4way
Tunze Osmolator auto top off
Tunze Wavebox 6215
Older Neptune controller, I'll get the newer APEX
I have an ozonizer and a dryer.
Dedicated HRV in the fish room.

I have a grave yard of lights 400MH, 250MH, T5's but I have some LED's on my wish list.

The reason I started the build thread is I had a question regarding placement of the viewing walls height at the water line of the tank. I want it just below the water line so you can't see wave action. I answered it myself I think, with out the final stand, tank, not knowing the wave line it would be a guess at best. So I decided to tile the entire wall and leave out a section that I'll add in after the tank is in place.

The entire five years I ran a temporary 200 gallon tank with two fish in it, a purple tang I've had for 13 years and a damsel with lots of live rock, so ridiculous. It was a real show of serious tank neglect, very few water changes, skimmer broke a year ago, never replaced. The fish are happy I've been cleaning up a bit.

Could be a couple weeks before the build see's many more pics.

Thinking, searching lights and pumps about the only real changes in five years. That and algae scrubbers seem to be the flavour of the month. Oh and maybe Bio-balls seems to be making a slight come back.

I thought I was going to be running a closed loop with a Ocean Motion OM4 as I already have the equipment from my last reef setup and it was successful. Now after reading the debate on the merits of a closed loop vs. wave maker style power heads I'm at a loss of which way to go. (no pun intended)

Is it a typical debate like DSB?
Please help with my last minute design panic on my 300G build.

nice work, is there going to be AC ducting in there? you guys with your spare rooms are so blessed, i think i may move my tank to the wall opposite the garage, then i can place the top off and do water changes into the utility sink.

No AC, but it has a room dedicated HRV. If needed I was going to add a smaller AC to just that room but hoping it won't be necessary.
Funny you mention the room, it is already starting to feel small planning out the water storage, sump, QT tanks, etc, etc.....

Some progress, finished off the fish room vapour barrier all over and installed a ceiling. Bought 170lbs of great rock heres a few pics. These pieces are like basketball size and bigger. Cleaned all the rock off and have it curing and skimming. Nice to fire up the monster skimmer after it had a five year holiday.
Tank should be here soon.

Oh ya ordered a GHL Mitras LED lights. My tank is 81 X 30 so I'm going to try out two lights at first, i think it'll work as I'm not super concerned with max lighting the far side edges. The lights have a 36" spread so at 72" total it'll only be a bit not being well lit.... I hope.

Weird they were all upside down earlier when I looked.

More pics? I'll see if I can get one with my kid 'in' the skimmer for you.
I could take a picture of of new GHL's

anyone one care to comment:

My tank builder thought I was crazy to match my flow through the sump to match my skimmer~ 700gph. He was thinking that with my total water volume of 500+-G that 700gph through the sump would not be enough for the heaters in the sump to heat the DT?? I'll have additional tank turnover of 7000gph +- from a closed loop feeding a OM 4 Way.

I don't think he is correct, we both looked at each other like the other was crazy, any comments?
