~300G System Set Up

Update...

System is currently cycling, readings today were
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 1.0
Nitrate 0

I have the 180 and Sump up and running where I want it, just need to do some cord management. I added a 10G Tank for ATO and will look at getting a cheap top to help prevent evaporation/contamination. Got the braces for my 3rd light so that is on the tank now, getting some algae growing on the rocks/sand and have had the skimmer going. What I typically like to do with a cycle is run everything as normal. This means when the cycle is done and I place snails in they have a food source to eat, their poops will then have a broken in skimmer to pull some of the junk out. Here are some picks of the rockscape...

I have started thinking of a fish list, I am getting over the flu so trying to clean up a little but the 30G QT with the snails should have enough sponges/filter/media where I can seed my 40B QT Tank (had to take it down and clean it out when the sand filter went crazy). So far I am looking at the first fish being a pair of bangai cardinals but would like to also have another fish or 2 go through QT with them, mabye a goby? For sure once the system is cycled the snails will go in and get replaced in the 30G QT with some Cleaner Shrimp and some more snails.

I will work on a fish list/order and post it up... while the system is plumbed together the 90G will be all clownfish/nems and maybe a burrowing fish or 2.

The rockscape looks beautiful. Sand puts the finishing touches in the tank. The cabinet is beautiful as well! I'm jealous I have to get my azz going with my tank as well!! good job!

Thanks Harry,

I am very happy with the 180 Rockscape... lots of caves, swim throws, and coral placement locations. The right rock is 1 solid rock except for the shelf piece and support going toward the middle of the tank. The right side of the rock has a very nice flat and spiraling formation which I have keyed into as my Zoa Garden. Basically the area under the floating heater in the pictures.

I just cut up a bunch of egg crate for the 30G QT, I figure once the snails are out I will put that in, get my next batch of snails/shrimp. After that batch QT's for 5-6 weeks I should be ready for some corals. My Parents 100G 5' tank is packed wit ha mixture of their stuff and my old stuff, it will be interesting fragging out of there and actually seeing some of the rock again.

Update...

Next weekend I aim to move my 2nd batch of inverts from QT to the 180 Display. Currently it is 3 Cleaner Shrimp, 1 Fire Shrimp, and about 6-8 snails. I have set up the lights above the Coral QT but forgot an edge to keep from being blinded, will add when I get some time/weather cooperates. The frag rack I made might be too big for current needs and I will be moving some of the biomedia balls to the Display Sump as "Bacteria Back Up" in case of outbreak in QT where I need to drain, sterilize, and start over.

Fish QT is rocky, I had a blenny in there which died, started an ammonia spike so I am letting that take it's course, Next weekend I hope to grab some fish for it... aiming for a Bangai Cardinal Pair and a Blenny to start my 1st batch of Prazi/Copper.

I dealt with the wire nightmare which was under the 180G Display. Lots of power boxes (idk what you call them) and wires everywhere. I went to Staples, got a plastic file holder on discount for like $5, drilled it inside the sump. This allows me to place the Power Boxes inside, and with all the opening allows for wire management where they feed in the front, then out the back and up to the DJ Switch with Drip Lines. Also its open so air can circulate around the power boxes.

I used some zip ties and velcro to make the rest of the sump a bit neater as well. Still need to a little more work here but as the controllers are velcro mounted for easier use I do not want to make them immovable.

I also went to my parents 120, 5 foot Tank and cut some zoa's off. This means next weekend I will move my current shrimp/snails over to the 180 Dispay, give the tank a wipe down, and move these in. I will be putting the zoa's on new plugs as my parents tank has a little of everything (aptasia, asterina stars, bubble algae, spinoid worms etc). then after 4-6 weeks they will get rotated out for new corals. I believe the zoas/palys are (left to right) Blonde Blue Eyed B*****, Captain Americas, randoms, grandes, candy apple reds, pink zippers. I may also grab some heads of the Hammer in the background of pick and Kryptonite Candy Canes.
