i have just recently moved to a bigger marine set up and purchased a tunze 3115/2 skimmer it has been in the tank for about 2 weeks now, dont know wheather it is working ok or not, the problems are
1. i m getting tiny bubbles coming from the vents in the main housing
2. the collection chamber is filling with clear water even when the airflow is turned down to the lowest setting

does it just need running in?

The small bubbles exiting the vents are normal in a few conditions:

A) Skimmer is new.
B) Intense lighting and high photosynthetic activity, i.e. lots of algae or fast growing coral.
C) KH is excessive.

In the case of A- wait about 2 weeks. In the case of B- reduce lighting duration and harvest algae. In the case of C stop adding buffers and wait for KH to decline to between 8-12 degrees.

The clear skimmate can be normal if any vitamins, amino acids, dechlorinators, slime coat additives were used. It is also normal in mid break in, after the skimmer has run about a week but not quite 2 weeks. Leave the venturi screw open 2.5 turns. Also check that when closed their is not much airflow and when open their is quite a bit.
