3155 osmolator without sump

I'm looking to buy an ATO and the 3155 osmolator seems to be the best choice. I don't have a sump and won't for a few years. I keep my water level about 1/2" to 1/4" below the rim of my tank.

I'm pretty sure the osmolator won't work well in this case (because the highest I could attach it would probably leave the water line at least 1" below the rim, right?), is that right?

I do have a CPR Aquafuge2 HOB on my tank and I'm pretty sure I could use that. It is acrylic and has no top (I light from the side). Provided I could keep the chaeto away from the osmolator (which I think I can), would there be any issues with this setup?

One think that concerns me is that the fuge water line is higher than my tanks. So if the fuge's pump died for some reason, I'd overflow my tank as the osmolator would think the water level is low and be on.

Sorry for the long post. I guess another question is: what is the maximum distance my water line would be below a rimmed tank if installed in a DT?

Thanks!

I wouldn't advise use in the refugium, that sounds risky. From my measurements, the water level will be 1-1 1/8" below the trim.

Okay, thanks. I think I will get the 3155 and will have to live with the water 1" or so below the trim (until I can get a new setup with a sump). I agree putting in my refugium doesn't seem safe at all the more I think about it.
