3162 or 3163 for QT Tank?

Hi Roger,

I am setting up a 33g long quarantine tank for my fish. Which filter would you recommend? Does one allow more media than the other? Is the flow adjustable on both?

Only the 3162 has adjustable flow. The 3162 is also more absolute, the 3163 has a bypass in case the media is clogged so some water bypasses filtration. I would use the 3163 in a small display reef where you want filter and flow in one. In all other cases and for larger tanks the 3162 is better, the flow is less diffuse so the cleaned water is directed away. Neither should be packed too densely with media. You want to pack them like an old school box filter.
