hello everyone not been on reef central for such a long time mainly due to being really busy at work and having a 3 year old tearing up the place!!!!!!!!
I live across the pond just outside of london.

i thought a good way to get me back in the reef central loop would be to start a thread on my tank.

my tank has been running for 2 years now and I decided to run the triton method from the start.

my tank is 62x43x27 high. I wanted a tank with nice depth front to back as give you a nice dimension and found fish behaviour to be more natural.

my tank is mainly spa dominated but will have some lps.

I was lucky that the hole in the wall saved me space in my house as the back of the tank and sumps went into my garage.

I started off with 2 400 watt halides with 20k radium bulbs as i run my last tank with them for about 3 years and had good results.

I now run 4 radion pros with wide angled lenses and love them.
I run a vertex alpha cone 300 which has two red dragon pumps and can honestly say easily the best skimmer I have had.

I had to do some work in the garage to get it warm and decided to trun it into a proper room.

here is a picture of my last tank which I ran berlin system with the very first biopellets.
twin 250 watt halides 20k radium and some t5 for extra punch and atinincs

new armoud cable carrying power supply I decided to have another consumer unit in the garage so it had all it own mains.







I did all this myself as I am a plasterer by trade.

haha yeah they are typical bricks!! I prefer the yellow stocks! planning an extension next year so i might colour render it and the use wooden cladding on the top half.

first coat of paint with a nice white wash to seal plaster



went for a nice blue for a sea theme and cam across this paint..






started the floor, should of gone for tiles with a drain in the middle but at the time the build was taking so long so had to get going so got a near waterproof laminate as possible.


I'm just off now to treat myself to a coral treat so will be back this afternoon

some of the rock plate i got.
should of used live rock really, as this is what you are supposed to when starting a triton tank but I only decided last minute to do a triton reef.
which you are supposed to start with the freshest live rock and natural seawater.




the garage side and the base is all set.


next to the main tank will sit a holding/frag tray and a cheat tank underneath,
the cheat tray runs before the skimmer in the triton method.

right Im off to bed back to work tomorrow and going to be hard work been eating like beast over the xmas holidays!! back in for two days then off again!!

my last tank was 60x30x24 24 being the height.
I was lucky with my old tank as we had a cellar and I drilled through the floor and put 3 big sump tanks down there so made it a lot easier.


it was a nice tank and slowly getting there with my new one so will keep the updates coming in thick and fast so we can get unto date.

I did have a dry mouth moment lifting this in as it was bloody heavy and arkward!!


external weir, I didn't want a internal weir they look horrible and take up space.

haha testicles back in shape!! thanks mateI love the dimensions too but if I could of i would of gone to 72 inches long.

are you talking about the tank connectors? these connectors have screws both sides and have been siliconed into place.

it was the only way they could go.

i did start with a deltec 2560 but later changed to a vertex alpha cone 300 made by royal exclusive who make the bubbling, just preferred the cone shape on the vertex, the build and red dragon pumps are the same.

a bean animal is a drain system that uses three drain pipes -- one is a full siphon, one is a wet overflow and the third is a dry emergency. There is a massive thread on RC discussing its proper installation.

the comment about the threaded pipe I believe was to ask why you didn't have the bulkhead male thread on the dry side so that it would not be made inoperable by the build-up of gunk. Given the low pressure application in the overflow box, I don't think there is any greater risk of leakage, but I have had to change one out in the past and it would have been more difficult if I had the male thread inside the overflow box.

Love how the aquascape came out.

Thanks for the explanation mate, I had never heard of it before.
But that is basically what I have!!

I always like having tw, one on full the other with a ball valve I back up a little to quieten and then the third is an emergency.

I have run my las two tanks like that, bit of piece of mind and I'm normally over the top with most things!!

never really thought about that regarding the tank connector, I have done a few installations with a company and we have always fitted them like that so false of habit I suppose.

It all seems to work well thou and has been running for 2 years now.
Nice to have your input mate to be honest you always get anther perspective and other mind set.

nice re living it to be honest, and there is always things you would change on a new set up.
