320 gallon Upgrade..

Hello RC,

I have learning a lot from this forum and still learning, I am ordering tank next week, This tank is going to be 48"x48"x32". This is basically cube that is going to fit in my existing wall opening. I am having this tank build locally. I am going this route because I want to be able to stop by where the tank is being built and see what is going on and make changes if I have to and make suggestions as well and I want to give business to local vendor as well. As per my conversation this tank will be 3/4" thick regular glass all around including bottom. I spoke to builder and I asked him if he is going to use euro brace, But he mentioned he uses stainless steel top and bottom brace and there will be one bar in the middle going from front to back and is going to be cured with special material to make it saltwater resist. I like this idea better but I am thinking about paying extra and have eurobrace and stainless steel both on top and bottom. I need suggestions about overflow box, I have my mind set on not having overflow box on the inside. What you guys think about H20 overflow kit? More info can be found via link below, I looks like pretty good with stealth look that I wont even notice when this is mounted on surface. I have even have 4 of these installed, 2 on each side. So far this is the only plan, There will be ton of pictures coming... Oh I forgot to mention that this tank will be drilled on the bottom 8 1" holes and I will connecting Oceans Motions that will be running with reeflo dart pumps...Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated..

Personally I saw those somewhere before. Then people convienced me that the length of the overflow greatly increases the skimming effort of the tank, and it not concentrated in one or four spots.

I do like the idea of the stainless and want to know about the material it is cured with.

If you are having it ordered why not just make the overflow on the one side of the tank. Notched/cut into it. Nothing at all on the inside of the tank and clean lines. Nothing protruding inside like those would be.

I agree with you for having the overflow box and since is it going to be outside why not.. They have to seal the metal brace and I have meeting scheduled for Wednesday to put deposit for the tank and he is going to walk me through the process and show me how they seal the top and bottom brace.. I am pretty excited about this build..

Will you be using one of their Seamless Sumps too? They look pretty interesting. I like the idea of modular design and the ability to modify, change add to it at a later date.

I was thinking of that as well but I have sumps already and they don't have sump that can hold 2 large filter socks... but sumps are built strong though...

I actually called them to discuss this as I run a beananimal and wanted to understand how I could use their modules for 3 overflow outlets. There are certainly ways of employing their components to configure it to work. I'm considering it as I want to increase the sump volume and the pretty acrylic sumps are way more expensive if I were to go that route (2 to 3 times more by my calculations). I currently have an Elite Aquatics sump, but wish it was larger.

I really like the idea of this sump. It makes tank upgrades less expensive and you can just add on more modules to increase sump volume vs having to build/buy a new sump. And, if you're inclined to add a frag system, it can be incorporated into the main sump with the addition of a module or two. Pretty neat idea they have.

I think they may end up making modules more specific to saltwater use as the person I spoke with was interested in knowing more about how I found out about their products. Seems they're more geared toward freshwater, but I think they have a good market for salt.
