33 Gallon Long "Build" Thread

do you think that will be enough to do the trick?

I haven't actually checked temp differences between the sump and the display tank yet but just from feeling the temp of the water I would say the sump is proly at least 2-4 degrees colder than the display tank....

A small fan will help for sure. 82 to 84 is not bad if you can keep it from rising much further. My tanks run in that range during summer without any problem, and it's a full blown SPS dominated reef.

hmm, so the problem might be the thermometer(s) and not neccessarily the temp in the tank.....
my older (but still in great condition) Coralife digital thermometer is reading from 79-81 while the brand new one I just got yesterday ( same model) is reading 83-85 - about 4 degrees higher at any point....
I'm totally confused, I thought they were supposed to be fairly accurate...
I guess I just need to get out a good-old fashioned type and see which one is closer to the true temp...

LOL Last time I bought a digital thermometer I turned on everyone they had and there was a 3 or 4 degree difference lowest to highest. I bought one of the ones that was reading in the middle of the range. I've noticed it on the glass ones before too. I bought 4 glass ones two were identical temps 1 was 2deg higher the other 2 degrees lower. Didn't notice till I got them home, thats when I learned to compare several before buying one. I guess you could try new batteries in the old one and see if it brings them any closer.
When I had my 55G it got up to about 83 in the summer and I had no trouble. It was only softies and a frogspawn tank though.

well, time to dig this thread up from a Lonnnnnggg time ago and update you all on what's going on!

I've since added a bunch more fish and a LOT more corals, as well as a BTA....

When it came to replace the lights I went with
2 ATI aqua Blue
1 ATI pure actinic
1 ATI pro color

Recently I've actually cut it back to 1/1/1 because 216 watts in that shallow of a tank, individually reflected was just overkill and bleaching stuff more than it was helping it..

That new color combo is AMAZING...

Couple of other changes:
-took out a bubble divider in my sump so that I could fit a new skimmer in sump
-replaced the Coralife skimmer with an ASM G2- What a difference!

Anyways, I'll take some pics tonight or maybe tomorrow but I thought you all might like to see the transformation 10 months later! It's pretty unique for a "nano tank"
