34 Gallon Zeovit Mini-Reef

I am not new to sps, been around here quite awhile This reef is only 8 months old, 2 months on zeovit. I will be happy to share that regiment for anyone intersted, but will be brief otherwise. So, onto the system.

Tank: 34 Gallon Solana
Filtraton: E-shopps RS-75 Sump, Reef Octopus NWB110 Skimmer, Cleartides HOB Zeovit RX, Vertex Carbon(passively)
Lighting: Giesemann Infinity 2xt5(Giesemann Acitinic+) 250 HQI-(Phoenix 14k)
Flow: MP10, Korilla2
Other: Coralvue AquaHouse Dosing-2part, ATO-Generic/works well

And thank you for the compliment...
The stand easily accomodated the sump. As far as the filtration compartments in the AIO setup, I actually recess the surface skimmer of my hang on overflow from E-Shopps, so that the water level is less than that of the return overflow from the maintank, I have it positioned so the water litterally flow from one overflow to the next, leaving all the filtration compartments basically full of tank water. I have a pump in the last filtration compartment to avoid the water from becoming stagnant, I will eventually add some live rock rubble and use these compartment areas to allow for a cryptic fuge like area, this should be beneficial in the zeovit program. I can see about getting some pics for you if you are interested. Kind of late now though...lol..

1. Zeolites--- 1/3 liter @ 35 GPH pumped twice daily
2. Zeostart3--- 3 drops or .1ml 2 times per day
3. Vertex ROX Carbon--- .1 liter passive sock

Monday: Sponge Power 1 drop, Pohls Extra 1 drop, Biomate 1 drop, BW K 5ml

Tuesday: B Balance 1ml, Coral Snow 1ml

Weds: Zeo Bak 2 drops

Thursday: Sponge Power 1 drop, Bio Mate 1 drop

Friday: Pohls Extra 1 drop, Coral Snow 1ml

Saturday: ZeoBak 2 drops

Sunday: K Balance 1ml, Amino Acid LPS 1 drop

This schedule is likely to be tweaked due to the fact that zeovit is mostly about observation. FWIW, this is my second zeovit tank, so I am familair with the program, but all feedback and comments are welcome, it only makes us better. I also went back to my previous skimmer and took the Octopus NWB110 offline due to it being a bit larger for the system and a pinwheel impellar(thanks Bogg), so back to my smaller skimmer which is the JNS WS-1, a pinwheel skimmer as well, but hopefully not too strong that it interferes with zeovit balance.

Good to still see you around too, your tank looks to be coming along nicely...

As far as the skimmer goes, and I read an extremely hard to understand thread where boomer chimed in stating that a skimmer cannot cause "K" to precipitate. KZ states that a needlwheel impellar is too aggressive for their system, for that, I have no scientific response, boomer seemed to denounce such a claim. Logic only tells me that a skimmer that is pulling a wet skimmate is likely depleting many ions, that said, I do feel overskimming could cause balancing issues, again, no science, just logic. Personally, I feel depletion of ions is likely caused by zeolites, so that is why K must be managed tightly on this system, whether testing and/or dosing. I can state this for my only fact that keeping ionic balance is tricky on zeovit, I do not currently supplement CA or MAG, they do not deplete like alkalinity does. Weekly water changes alone more than substantially keep me in ionic balance, currently dosing my system 5ml per day ALK. So, my point is that CA, ALK are not being depleted at the same rate, like all my non-zeo tanks...

As far as nutrients go, I have a hint of NO3, at 5ppm right now, looking to bring it down, hopefully adding a sump and eventually more liverock and cryptic fuge will take care of that. With elevated NO3, I do have patches of hair algae. Note, the hair algae was present before the zeo conversion, and has only improved since the change. As far as PO4, I am 0.00 every test using handheld Hanna meter.

As far as the skimmer goes, we will have to wait and see, the NWB110removed for now, using my previous skimmer which used to be housed in my filtration compartment when using tank as AIO setup. It is rated for a 90gallon tank, small sicce pump, this thing tuggs like crazy for a small skimmer. So, I basically bought a new skimmer for nothing... Will likely post it up and take a loss just to re-coop some funds. I have my eye on a KZ "S" conical skimmer, may pull the trigger for my Christmas gift to myself this year

Anyway,
My next purchases will be a few more acros, to complete this tank, I will be looking to adding the following:
*Pearlberry
*Red Planet
*Efflo
*granulosa
*echinata
*pink stylo---non acro
*red dragon

Update Time.

I am now all sps except for the lobo, I will likely add some additional lps over time, but needed to kick the flow up a bit, rics, and frogspawn were not happy, they however all have a happy home now...

I wanted to show some new inhabitants. I by no means would ever spend the kind of money they want for these fish, but I worked out a trade with a local breeder for a protein skimmer. These guys momma is the ProAquatix Black Ice, and the father is a Wild Ocellaris with Snowflake markings, was able to see the mom and dad, they are both stunning... One proud pappa right now...

I had a misbar from ORA, but donated it back to the LFS, I saw potential issue down the road, so best to keep just the pair... Here are my inhabitants...
1. Clownfish Pair
2. Leopard Wrasse
3. Lawmower Blenny
4. Pistol Shrimp
5. Peppermint Shrimp
6. Serpent Star
7. Various Snails

I plan on adding a yasha shrimp goby to pair with the pistol. I will likely stay put with the 5 fish.
