Hey all,
So to start I have had reef tanks here and there but took a couple of years off. I inherited this 36 Gal from a friend deploying for a good price.
So here's the question???
We moved the tank about 4/5 weeks ago. In the beginning had a small outbreak of green hair algae, but that seems to be controlled and almost non existent. Now I have noticed a decent amount of what I think is diatoms. Could this be from he tank move?
I do weekly water changes of 5 gallons approx 10-13% water change every 7 days. Nitrates are still showing around 20 ppm, with everything else being normal. Salinity is @ 1.025. That being said, is it just a cycle? I bumped up water temp from 75 to 77 and that's right about the time I noticed the red stuff.
The tank has a current USA led light, 2 jebao pp-4 wave makers set on random wave mode and a Aquamaxx HOB-1 skimmer. I feed lightly (every other day-frozen brine or hikari pro, 1/8 of cube), and only have 2 clowns, a watchman goby and a cleaner shrimp. For coral, one torch, palys, zoas and a Xenia. No issues with the corals and all seems to be growing fine.
Lastly, when I inherited the tank, the male clown would not eat and was grasping for air and hanging out at the power head for weeks. He ended up having stringy looking poop and I thought he was a goner. Last week he turned for the better and is eating finally and looks completely normal. So could this all have been from a dirty tank or the move and things are progressing for the better now? I did get the tank from someone who was a freshwater tank guy and it was his first SW tank.
Any thoughts, recommendations or am I just worrying to much?
