360g From Scratch Build Thread

Ill watch the progress of this... post the pics as you go.

I plan on posting pics but they won't be great as the only camera I have is the one on my phone.

Maybe Santa will bring me a nice new DSLR camera for Christmas.

Killer dimensions! I think you'll be happier having the extra width (front to back) instead of the depth.

Thanks, yeah I'd much rather have the larger footprint than the 36" of height.

sweet this is going to be cool.

Yeah I know, now we've just gotta convince my wife of that...:lolspin:

how think is the glass? are you going to cut the front or rear panes down your self since you are making it shorter? i am assuming you are going to use one of the panes for the bottom and cut one of the others down to make the other upright pane. i have never had much luck cutting glass that is very thick i would try to take it somewhere and have it cut and beveled.

The glass is half inch. I'm going to have a local glass shop in Effingham cut the front 96"x36" pane down 12" to make it 96"x24" and I will be dismantling my 180 and they will be cutting the front pane from it in half to make two pieces 24"x36" for the ends of the 360.

do you think 1/2in. will be thick enough?

I think half inch was pushing it when the tank was 36" high but by cutting it down to 24" I think it will be fine

I have the 180 completly drained now so all I have to do is remove a few hundred pounds of wet sand and I can start taking it apart.

wow your moving right along.that's the part i hate messin with the old wet sand.i forgot you told me it was going to be 24 high you'll be fine with 1/2 in.

Yeah, I'm getting things torn down and apart pretty quickly, then things will be put on hold until I can get the glass into Effingham to go under the knife, and I need to start building a stand. It's to cold to get motivated about anything today though. It's noon and the temp is still just 23 with a windchill of 12.....Brrrrrrr..

Was 13 with a windchill of 2 when I got up this morning.
