360g Rebuild.....

Going to try and make this a little fun thread of my rebuild! Will post some pics of the old build, maybe it will bring back some memories for a few of you.

A little about the tank:Its a TruVu 6x4x2 with an island overflow. The tank has been in storage for 3 months now and its time to get it setup and give my sohal back her home :D

Over the past 4 years the tank has been setup, moved and taken down twice. It has had a deep sand bed, bare bottom, shallow bed, remote fuge, attached fuge, turf scrubber, remote dsb, sterilizers, chillers, low flow, high flow, halides, 400w, 250w, 20k bulbs, 14k, 10k.....etc etc etc. I have done just about everything imagineable to this tank and luckily its still in one piece.

So now let me get to my point. I want to do something different than before, but I need some new and fresh ideas. Here's some of the things I have been turning over in my head.
Equipment I will be using for sure:
1. 2x400w LumenarcIII with icecap ballasts. Probably 14k aquamaxx or 20k radiums.
2. Deltec AP851 skimmer
3. Reeflo Dart Gold
4. 2x RKL controllers
5. Large refugium
6. Deltec media reactors
7. 3x Dosers
8. ATO

Need opinion on these:
1. Sand bed. I have tried all 3 ways. And have never been happy with any of it. I even had starboard at one point and that was probably the best experience I have had.
2. Water flow. I have 4 Koralia 5's and a few 7's. Not sure if upgrading to MP40s is worth it.
3. Fuge vs Zeovit. I have yet to use the Zeovit system. I have seen its results in person. Is anyone using zeo right now?
4. School of Anthias. Has anyone had success keeping a school long term? If so, what type and food regime did you have?
5. Harem of Genicanthus angels. Still not sure which yet. Anyone have any experience keeping these in a harem?

As far as corals go, I will be doing mainly softies. Zoas and Palys. No mushrooms, no montis, maybe a few acros. I want to let them go wild in the tank over my live rock. Was also thinking of going with a type of pirate theme, and actually getting a few plastic pirate ships and burying them somewhat in the rockwork letting zoas/palys grow wild over them. Now its time to clear my garage out, again lol, to make room for the tank. I gotta find homes for the 100's of frags and colonies I have, as well as temporary homes for my fish. Before I post some pics below I want to thank everyone for all the help you have given me. I could sit here and make a monstrous list of each person and how they have helped me, but the list would just be too big. It feels great to get back to my roots as a hobbyist and the environment you guys have brought forth is a nice breath of fresh air for the club.

Congrats on getting this beast back up and running!

1. Im a shallow sandbed fan. I think it looks great and you dont get some problems that a dsb can cause.

2. You should be fine with your Koralias. I recently got a mp40w es and i like it, but its loud. I may get some bigger tunzes instead of the mp40.

3. Ive never used zeo and have no knowledge of how it works, so i vote fuge :D because they are simple and efficient. Im not to sure you will need to run zeo in a mostly softy tank anyhow.

4/5. A bunch of Bartletts would look sweet or the carberryi seem to do good in aquaria. Ive seen a tank with a harem of flames that did great with eachother.

This is awesome! For sure going to watch this thread. Nice to see you posting Elliott.

Getting a school of Anthias would be sweet. I am also planning to get maybe 10 or 12 of either the bartletts or carberryi.

I say a huge school of Ventralis anthias!

Ok I kid I kid;) I personally love the Dispar anthias, I have a few and would love to see them in a 10-12 bunch.

For the angels what about the Japanese Swallowtail/Genicanthus melanospilos?

Dan, I am not allowed to post anything for sale on reef central, even though I no longer have a business or a retail license I am still considered to have "wholesale contacts". But I do want to trade a lot of it away to stock up my new tank. Lookin for zoas and palys, open to anything I do not currently have. As far as the progress on the tank rebuild, I am moving out one of the frag tanks, a stand and 2 lights on sunday. Still have to get rid of the 2 other acryllic frag systems I have. After those are all out then I can start the rebuild!
