36G - A small measure of Reef

Hello,

Super nice! Amazing that you have that many nice pieces of SPS in there, and that it doesn't look cluttered. Love the look of the tank in the room. Like the rocking chair in front of the tank too - although I wouldn't do any reading it, just staring at the tank!

Hey Jordan, thank you for such nice comments. You did hit the nerve regarding the cluttering. We all know that eventually, those corals will outgrow in a way that the overall layout will become drastically changed. I guess that the challenge will be to maintain the 5 islands well sketched through pruning while keeping corals happy and let them fill their niches. Let´s see if I can work things in that manner. The chair has some history itself. It has been in my family for 4 generations and it was a place where stories and historic events were discussed by the fire place. Now, it serves as my resting place after a hard day´s work for relaxation and wondering in underwater thoughts. :)

Perfect positioning of the the rocking chair compliments the beautiful reef..very relaxing for sure..

Thank you. The rocking always makes me fall asleep when I relax to much.

Stunning André, stunning :)

Thanks man. I hope all is well with your restart. It´s going better than ever. :)

How high is your light off of your water surface? been trying to figure out how high to put mine over my tank

The ATI hangs about 10cm (roughly 4 inches) from the water surface.

That first one looks like it has some serious potential once it colors up. Blue tips, yellow base, yellow tips, and maybe some pink in there? Great coral pics as always

Every time you update your thread andre i open it with a big smile on my face and some anxiety to see some more awesome pics....they both stay for some more time after i leave your thread:)

Welldone and thanks for sharing

Hi André, your work and your tank is an absolute inspiration. I don't currently own a reef tank, but seeing your ability to make these incredible unifying compositions has me craving to try for myself!

I've read your articles on aquascaping and am keen to try for myself on a 48 x 24 x 24.

A few questions for you:
1) How do you keep your back glass so pristine? I'm considering a removable black acrylic screen mounted on my return bulkheads. The idea is that it will cover the external overflow as well as making cleaning a little easier. What do you think?

2) Your article mentions laying out all your rock on the floor and choosing the pieces that fit well together. Do you always have enough rock to make this puzzle work? Is it worth chiselling a few of the bigger pieces to get the shapes you want?

3) Do you choose species of coral/fish that specifically match the scale of the tank? As in, your SPS all seem to be of a much denser and smaller branching variety, as well as smaller fish. How do you know which SPS will behave like this, or do you prune them a specific way?

One more...

4) Will 48 x 24 by enough front-to-back to create real depth with the "bleacher effect" or should I up it to 48 x 30... What dimensions were the tank you scaped in the article here: http://www.bioaquaria.com/?p=819? I've got the space I guess, but I expect 5 or 6 inches will already be taken up by the external overflow meaning the tank will actually be pushed out by 3ft!

Andy, thanks. Meanwhile, that coral has darkened a little but it has began to encrust. I´m hopping it colours back again.

Thanks.

Parabéns Andre, Muito lindo mesmo! ótimas fotos também!!

Obrigado. Valeu!

Hey Mike, thanks! I bring some more updates. :)

Tank is going on cruise control mode after 6 months of being set up. I´m keeping things simple and stable. Weekley water changes, feed heavily at least once a day and blast the tank with the three majors:light, flow and heavy skimming.

Thanks for watching.

Andre, Your reef is looking great! Are you still using 4 blue+ and 2 coral+ as your bulb combination? What order do you have them in and are you using the dimming function on the fixture?

nice color! this is what you call true dedication. Goood job ANDRE and keep up the A+ work.

Thanks, really appreciated.

Thank you Todd. I am running an 8 bulb ATI Sunpower with no dimm function. Total light is 9h/day. blue light is 10h/day. These are on and off half an hour before and after the other 6 bulbs, respectively.

The order and bulb combination resumes to ATI Blue Plus and ATI Coral Plus (front to back):

Beautiful little tank, and your pictures are incredible.

Thanks Mark.

Very nice tank! Awesome coral selection. Makes me want to start up a rimless cube :)

Thank you. Rimless cubes are awesome indeed. ;)

Your pictures are incredible!! Made me log in just to say that!

Wow Ron. Thank you for that.

Gorgeous Andre! As always.

Bjarne, long time no see. Where have you been man? You have to update your thread. Thanks for stopping by.

Just one more:

Glad you got your color combo back to where you want it! How had the experience been with your flame angel? Big props for testing it out. Colors still look fantastic, so amazed!

Well André, we bought a new house :) The shallow reef was sold during the moving process. Currently i have a ELOS 70 that i started this spring. I'll snap some pics and start a thread any day now, my aquascape is as in the shallow reef inspired by your tanks :)

Pure "loving:p" awesomeness andre:inlove:
Simply amazing!

That pic of the fungia is sooo sick!
All corals seem to be very happy and i can only imagine how the tank will look like in a few more months when they'll double their size!
Great job!

Have you changed anything regarding your routines cause i think colors are deeper/better(imho) compared to the previous pics!

Beautiful tank! Is that a gold torch coral at the very top right corner? If so, how did you get it to acclimate to the intensity of the ATI fixture?
