The part that makes this tank IMO, is the fish. The unusual choices of the Emporer, Asfur, triggers, butterflys, etc. really make it feel like a 'reef' and not a 'tank.' The awesome corals don't hurt either :D

I have had my share of bad choices, before I moved to this tank I had a small black back Butterfly that ate have of my corals and was extremely nervous arround me (maybe because I tried harpooning her a few times) so she will hide the minute she saw me, she also did not eat anything but the corals so she had no need to go in the trap. I finally drained the tank and was able to catch her, She now leaves in a FOWLR tank in Palm Beach.

With no risk there is no reward. Spend some time in the hobby and I think we've all have made more then a couple regretable decisions.

How long has this tank being setup?

Are those wild colonies or they were grown from frags?

Do you use carbon at all? I see a slight hue of green in the water....maybe camera not white-balanced??

Can you give us some equipment specs/additives?

The 375 gal tank was set up around November '07, most of the corals came from an existing 210 gal tank I had a few feet away, this tank was up since 2004.

99% of the corals were originally grown from frags, there is a couple of pieces that are wild, one of them is the double leg table you see in the pictures with the purple tips. The other is the green A, Austera in the middle of the red Monti cap.

Yes I use carbon but not regularly, I use it for a couple of weeks then take it out for a couple more. The slight hue you noticed is a combination of me cleaning the glass prior to taking the pictures and the White balance, The tank looks crystal clear after a few hours of cleaning the glass, but I didn't wait enough time.

The current equipment as follows.
Filtration, ETSS 800 xl skimmer, small filter pad that gets changed 2-3 times a week.

Controller, Aquatronica

Lights 3x400w 20k radiums running on PFO's hqi ballast

Circulation, 2 wavebox (soon to be 1) 2 tunze 6100, 4 MJ sureflow modded (2x1200-2z900), 2 sea swirls.

Chiller 1/2 hp pacific coast in line chiller (hooked outside)

Calcium & additives, Deltec 600 calcium reactor, deltec Kalk reactor (recently changed from a PM) I dose DIY part two & three when needed. I like to dose Amino-acids irregularly. I use Salifert brand, but plan to experiment with Elos Amino's next.

That's pretty much it

Hi Renee, Your coral is doing very nice the tips have turned light purple, I actually placed him a little higher on the rock work cause it kept on tilting into the sand cause of the high flow. I will take a picture and posted later.
 
The fish combination = 10, the coral combination = 10, the aquascaping = 10. This tank has what I like. All from 1-10 are 10!!! Its simpler than tanks of the month, with corals staggered one on top of each other, no room.
 
Rogger, what kind of fish is the one on top of the emperor on the second picture? I got one from Ray but lost it to skimmer pump when he ventured into the sump via overflow, I want to replace it but don't know the name.

LULIO, That is a Candy cane Hog fish, one of the better ones reef-safe wise among this family
