3D printing for reef tanks!

Yep

LOL, many of the the first "kit" printers were actually made with 3d printed parts, so yeah people do that. We also upgrade our printers by printing the upgrades. ;)

Sold. I am getting one for myself as a birthday present next week. Do you have favorite websites to suggest for me? Do you print abs? Do you need an enclosure? Newest videos I have found are over a year old. Thank You smoothdog

Keep in mind this is NOT a plug and play printer. Assembly will take the better part of a full day, then you will have to tinker to dial it in (this is the case with most kit printers). I also highly suggest getting an auto bed leveling sensor and to buy a couple extra nozzles and extruder throats to have on hand as super cheap clog insurance. The level sensor will require upgrading to skynet 3D firmware, which is better overall firmware anyway.

If you want to print ABS, yes, I would suggest an enclosure. I print mostly PETG and PLA so never bothered with one. You may want to get a mosfet and upgrade the wiring to the heat bed too if you plan to print a lot of ABS, as the standard one has a hard time keeping up with the high bed temp needed for ABS (at least without an enclosure).

I recently purchased a used ultamaker 2+ and love it it is pretty much plug and play. Have printed other peoples designs, but not having much luck creating my own items or even modifying other designs. I resized a custom off set funnel to suite my needs, but am un able to just extent the small end 3/8". Seems like it should be a simple operation. I have spent a couple hours with 3 different design programs and no luck. I have some ideas for aquarium stuff, but my attempts to make a cad design have been a total joke so far.
