3ft BB ULNS Tank

We've always had a custom 3ft in our bedroom, it used to be filled with LPS but it got to a point where it just wasn't exciting or a challenge anymore so yup you guessed it, I stripped it down moved on all then LPS and have been setting it back up another SPS tank. I've rebuilt the sump for easy maintenance because the sump I had in there before had 5 chambers and was a real pain to work on. This is where I'm up to so far

Tank after being shut down, I shortened the weir so I could create a good amount of flow

New sump installed with just 2 chambers and a filter sock

Scape done and has all been held up with PVC pipe for good flow through out the tank but will later be hidden but coral

Equipment List

Tank- 36x19x17 rimless 10mm glass
Sump- 27x15x14 2 chamber
Lighting- ATI sunpower 6x39w non dimmable
Skimmer- Vertex Omega 150
Dose- Vertex Libra
Return- Eheim 2000 (spare 3000 just in case it's not quite enough)
Flow- 2 x Tunze 6095 running off Tunze 7096 controller
Heater- Schego 300W titanium with Schego controller
ATO- Tunze 3155

The plans for this tank have been to make it different from our other 4x4x2 SPS system, that's why I have decided to go BB as I want to be able to completely control po4 and no3 to a minimum. I'd like to keep deep water species and some of the harder to keep SPS that need ULNS to keep their beautiful colours and by running BB and only having the one fish I hope I'll be able to achieve that. Tank should be filled today I'll add some more pics in the next few days :)

going to look great, the only change i would make is raise the rock higher off the bottom just in case you do decided to add sand later you still have the option.

Great start, subscribed. Do you have any SPS names in mind.

Thank you Haskar. I have collected a couple of pieces of tabling deep water so far and they are in storage in the 4x4x2  I haven't really picked out any specific names yet I'm one of those people that likes to hunt about and when I find the right piece for the right spot I'll grab it!

Wow,nice start scotty can't wait for the rest:dance:
Will be here for more pics:D

Thank you Mike :D I'll be letting it sit for a while at this stage mate so won't be too many changes anytime soon so I'll update when I think I have something interesting to post

Thank you Michael, I will look into that mate and see if I can do it, the reason I say if I can is that I've glued all the PVC to the bottom of the rock and then each piece of rock to each piece of rock so it's one big solid piece. Thank you for your input it's much appreciated and that's the exact reason why I post here :)

Awesome! Subscribed!

Thank you dowtish

Looks great I am doing the same idea

Thank you cugly, I'll have to find you thread and have a look :)

Love the scape!

Thank you :)

Looking good, how did you get your rock work up like that? Can you supply details? Is it sturdy?

Thank you. I have 9 precisely cut pieces of 1" PVC holding up all the rockwork. What I've done is started from the front left and worked my way back and as I was going I would cut the PVC to the right size and shape so that the rock was stable and in the position I wanted it to be. Then place the next piece of rock on top to make sure it wouldnt become unbalanced with the extra weight. Next I'd take the rock off and glue the PVC into place then also glue each piece of rock to each other as I worked back. The whole thing is extremely sturdy as that was my main goal, I didn't want to be placing in SPS and having to be fixing rock work at the same time :)

Nice mate, I do like the rock work too. I personally wouldn't raise it up, once you discover how efficient BB can be. I was feeding 3-5x more than I did with zeo, and still couldn't get a dusting of algae on my glass in over 10+ days. Needless to say most of my amino's ran out shortly after :-(. Ended up dumping a bunch of dry tonga branch & shelf in the system to get a bit of po4 in there. Look forward to seeing this develop, you definitely have the knack.

Thanks Benar. All this sort of info is good to know so thanks. I've never ran a BB before so it's new to me but I have definitely been doing my research and talking to a lot of people that have run them before as well :)

Thank you Scott
