4' 25G skinny build

Hey all,:wavehand:

I have really been dreaming about building my own tank from the ground up. So now I am going to get it started! I want it to be unique, Something that is not seen all the time. So I have come up with the idea of a "Picture Frame Tank" ....

The consept i think will work ... Long skinny tank (48"L x 6"W x 20"h) with the filtration system on both sides. One side holds a media basket (filter floss,carbon,GFO) and the ether holds a skimmer/heater. I will be getting "Tonga Branch" dry rock to do my reef scape with and a shollow sand bed.

I am really excited to see how this turns out. I am going to start getting a 3d render built up so yal can see a little bit more in detail what i am going for. I cant wait I am so amped right now:lol2:

Man what great Ideas you can come up with when you drink a bunch of Monsters and stay up all night:headwalls:!!!

I have seen them on websites before. Most are not viewed very well in the fish forums due to the very limited depth which makes it awkward for the fish to turn around. You are limited on what fish can be kept and also extremely limited on placing any aquascaping. Place a ruler next to your hand and see how limited you will be just trying to place something in the bottom of the tank, let alone trying to clean the glass.

I think it sounds like a cool build as long as you are ok with the limitations. Can't wait to see the 3d render and some pics as you make some progress. I too, like unique tanks.

One of the most interesting nano tanks was one of these and had a high and low tide during the day.

It has been years and was on another forum so I have no idea of who built it.

ok well I have the basic render done but I am running into trouble as to how I would mount it to the wall? I mean with 25G of water and rock and such it is going to weigh a good 250lbs.

cool build i was going to build a tank like this for a bathroom in wall with the filtration in a closet on the other side but i was gonna do 6x6x48. And now I'm gonna make a 55 wide low 48long 21 deep 13 tall. with 6 bulb t5ho. I would glue some rocks together to acheive hieght and to keep the tank from looking unfilled. make a few half way up one up real high and then a few on the bottom. Bonsai type rock, or glue some peices to the back.

My plan for the rocks was to use tonga branch rocks and try to inter twine whem to look like vines. Yet I want to keep some room for the fish to roam and such. I might use some left over reefsaver rock to make a few bases and such.

I hope to get started on the mounting system this sunday at the latest. Working Two jobs a day for a total of 16 hours it does not give me much time to get things going. I feel if the mounting system can hold my weight with me jumping on it, it should hold a tank of water. So that is the first order of buisness

Nice render, I think aquascaping will be fun...a challenge obviously but I think that is all part of the fun. I can't wait to see what you come up with.
