4 Stage RODI vs. 5 Stage

Thoughts on purchasing a 4 stage RODI vs. a 5 stage

Currently I see BRS with their 5 stage plus on sale ,but was wondering if I really need it or not.

125 gallon reef is my current tank. City water
I inquired awhile back about brands of RODI units, but never really asked if 5 stage is necessary

Do a Custom Build from BRS. I did a 6 stage( 1 micron Sediment filter, .2 SpectraPure ZetaZorb Super Micron Filter, 1 micron carbon block, Dow 75GPD, dual DI). My RO water have a TDS of 1, when it go's to the DI its 0.

I got the 5 stage when it was on sale black Friday great deal. I read .1 tds after the Di its 0 also.

I run the 4 stage BRS 75gpd RO/DI and I'm on city water as well...
reads 1-2 TDS out of RO and 0 TDS out of DI.....

Do you mean you would get the 5 stage over the 4 ?

I see the value is $129.99 and the value Plus is $152.00
I would definitely want the plus so the 5 stage is another $27.00

Currently I get my water from a neighbor and he has the Typhoon 3 150, a very nice unit, but also $279.95.
The Typhoon 5 75/100 is only $149.95 but it has no pressure gauge or TDS meter. The gauge is $14.95 and the TDS meter is $29.95, PLUS shipping.

Currently BRS is $179.95 free shipping, so that's why I was leaning towards them

from what I have read recently, if you have Chloramine (a combination of chlorine and ammonia) as a disinfectant in your water, then a 5 stage may be right for you as the extra carbon cartridge aids in completely removing Chloramine...if you only have Chlorine as a disinfectant in your water then a 4 stage is just fine...

IMO, if the TDS out of the DI is 0 then that's all that matters sans the Chloramine...

Someone on here said that chicago doesn't use chloramines. I would go with one carbon block you will save 10 bucks on another carbon block to change.

Is there a way to find out this information related to a particular city? I know I am on a facility in our town so I could probably just try and contact the Village. But I doubt they would know considering they are usually referred to as "Hooterville"...

I totally agree. Zero TDS is Zero TDS.
I may be wrong but my assumption is that maybe with a 5 stage vs a 4 the unit would not work as hard and may lead to longer filter life. Again, that's just an guess.
BRS actually does sell a different unit for Chloramine use. However it looks like it has to do with cartridges so they can always be changed out either way.
BTW I purchased the BRS 5stage plus yesterday.

Your Village Should know. That's where I got my info from.
I really don't believe you would be harming anything if you purchased a unit that could handle chloramine and your water supply doesn't use it?
You can go to BRS or Air Water and Ice here on this site and ask though>

if your water has chloramines you want to use a tca membrane (mostly for people on well water) otherwise you would go thru membranes faster not a factor on chicago city water
