4 Week Observation following TTM

From what I understand, the 4-week recommended observation period following TTM is to unmask any disease (brook/velvet/flukes) that may have been masked by low levels of copper from distributors/LFSes.

What happens if one of those diseases does show up and is successfully treated say in week 4 of post-TTM. Does the clock reset and another 4-week observation period is needed? Or just 1-2 weeks of observation to make sure the treatment worked?

Flukes can have very subtle symptoms (ex. head twitching), so you'd be best to treat for that prophylactically with Prazipro. I dose prazi at the onset of transfers 2 & 4 for this reason.

The "4 week rule" for brook/velvet begins once a fish has been removed from a chemical environment (ex. non-therapeutic copper) that may be suppressing symptoms of either disease. So, it actually begins once you start TTM, or whenever you receive the fish so long as it is being housed continually in a non-chemical environment.

If you ever have to treat for brook or velvet, I would observe for another 4 weeks after treatment is complete. Both are particularly nasty diseases you never want in your DT.

Good advice.
