I was re- doing my rock stack due to maintenance on my 125 . In the process I reduced my live rock from 200+lbs by 75lbs (estimate). Everything seemed to be liking the new surroundings.. Boy was I wrong.
The next morning (yesterday) my son says " daddy the yellow tangs have open wounds" this coming from a 5 year old. I looked at the tank and to my surprise the yellow tangs were fighting furiously. They both had severe open wounds on both sides of their bodies. I immediately separated them. The worse of the two was put in quarantine, that one was missing CHUNKS of flesh. I awoke today to find it had perished. The other one seems to be ok and somewhat healing. swimming and eating normally the wounds on the survivor are no longer blood red and look to have a scab forming on the wound( or what appears to be a scab). These two tangs were purchased and placed in the tank and lived together peacefully until this incident.
As an aquarium hobbyist I have prepared myself of these losses and side adventures. Now those that do not know me personally I am a big burly long haired biker.(think gentle giant) That being said, in this hobby we get attached to our livestock. Not necessarily naming all of them ie: I have a Koran angel my son calls korry (Gary M has Junior etc). I am surprised as to how attached to the fish i was. I guess ill take this as a learning experience..
