40 AGA Long All in 1 project

been debating if this would be a good idea or if anyone has done one before. I had a bad experiance with sumps so im looking to stay with the all in one system.. was thinking about using a 40 long. Have it viewed from 3 sides, creating the rockwork in the middle of the tank and having blocked off the end 1/4 of the tank for a built in sump/fuge area. Im thinking about using the aquaC as my skimmer. Im thinking for flow, i could use 2 tunze nanos and 3 maxi 900s to pump from the sump area into the dislpay. im chosing the lowest wattage pumps and trying to avoid the 1 pump only since if it fails, id be in trouble. + i could put the maxis on a wavemaker and have them on and off. as for the tunze, they'll be on all the time with the main 900 pumping out water. as for lights, still debating if i could just use t5's and get great results out of the corals or if i have to end up getting 2 150mhs. i've drawn this out like 10 different times with 10 different setups. i dont know which setup i want to use yet but i'll have to put it into visio so i can upload it.

If anyone knows where i can pick up a new 40L for cheap let me know. or if you have any ideas throw it up and i'll take it into consideration.

I think that sounds like a great idea. Taking the principles of nano reef keeping and applying it to slightly larger tanks would probably work out really nicely.

I have 2 nanostream 6025's and they rock. PM me if you want to come check 'em out, i live right around the corner from ya. Also, I think you could pull off a really nice tank with just t5's. I've got 4 36" t5's on my tank as the only light, and everything seems ok. I'm going to upgrade to a 6 bulb fixture eventually though.

Lemme know if you need your remora pro back (i was the dude who bought it off you). I'm actually going the other way and getting a sump soon, along with an in-sump skimmer.

Good luck max,

I have a truvue 75 gal all in one.The wet/dry filter built into the back and worked great for the first year. After about a year I had a major nitrate build up and a major break out of green hair algie due to the bio balls. I slowly remove bioballs and ran no filter at all just had a 5''DSB and about 175lbs of LR. Everything looked good but just could not get rid of the green hair. Was about ready to give up on the reef hobby when my brother-in-law told me he put in a refugium and he no longer has green hair algie.

Well long store short I installed my refugium 2nd week of Nov. and I no longer have green hair algie.

Pat, Take a look at the Pro refugium with built in skimmer
(Dr.Fosters or Marine Depoit) both RC sponsors
