40 Gallon Breeder reef tank build...

Got any pics of it in your tank? I'm a little concerned about anything that might have any affect on my Twin Spot (aggressiveness, too active, etc.). At least at this point. My Firefish and two Clowns are usually nowhere near him, so perhaps down the road I'll revisit my selections.

I would like a more open water swimming fish since none of the others on my list are.

On my phone there are pictures of the Hectors, Cherub and Clowns in one shot, no aggression at all.

Possibly Black or Sailfin Molly (converted to SW). Just toying with that idea.

I have Sailfin Mollies (Poecilia Latipinna) in my 90 gallon and they are doing a GREAT job at cleaning up leftover diatoms. To acclimate them, I floated them for 15 mins, put them in a 5gal bucket and started a drip of about 6 drips per second for 7 hours. Then once the salinity was 1.025, I floated them in a bag for 15 more minutes, then let them go. They are doing great! IME P. Latipinna (Sailfin Mollies) are the best acclimators to full saltwater. Make sure you have a male to female ratio of 1:2 or even better 1:3. Nice setup so far!

Got any pics of your sailfin mollies in your tank? I know they are very active and will graze on algae and they might be a nice addition to my saltwater tank. I used to run two privately owned LFS's and I've kept freshwater tanks for over 35 years. It would be interesting to see them in my saltwater tank.

Updated pics of my tank overall...

Actually, everything in the tank is doing great. All parameters are fine, stable and the tank looks healthy. Starting to get a tad bit of coralline algae in the display, with more growing in the refugium. Little bit of brown algae but nothing much to worry about. Chaeto's growing, skimmer is working overtime with extra target feedings of my Twin Spot Goby.

I'm right where I want to be with my tank at this stage...which is to say, I'm happy I'm a little ahead of the game. It's been great being able to just chill out and relax watching things.

No sign of the Twin Spot this morning. I usually at least see him out after feedings, but nowhere in sight. Sure hope I see him after work tonight.

How is he???

Haven't seen him in two days. He's got a lot of caves dug into the sand under and around rockwork (rockwork is directly on glass and was cut flat so it can't fall or shift). He could be hanging out in one of them and only coming out when I'm not around. I'm hoping that's the case anyway.

Mark, have you tried feeding to see if he will come out?

LOL and you have too many posts on this.

You mean too many threads? Yeah, I was anxious for any help I could get. I have since posted a link directed to this thread (in those threads).

Fed again today after work. No sign. Sigh. I guess we will see (or not see as the case may be).

That's a bummer, hopefully he turns up soon.

One thing that bothers me (less than possibly losing him of course) is that some people's perception that he should have been left to starve at the LFS. I really want to reiterate that this was not an impulse buy.

I really wanted a Diamond Watchman Goby, but had observed this guy at our LFS for a month and did a lot of research prior to getting him. What to do? I really agonized over the decision, but felt it was in his best interest to see what I could do for him given he would not have gotten anything more than the token "total tank inhabitant" treatment. And I don't mean that as a slight to the LFS at all because they are good, caring, responsible people. But it is a business and there was just no way to devote resources to one little fish like I could.

I completely understand what you are saying. The completely undeserved judgements are really starting to get on my nerves as well. I posted a few days ago about burrfish that I caught and the responses that I got were very irritating to me. I have considered leaving rc because of it. This community is supposed to be supportive of each other, but I have found it to be rather lacking these days. I truly hope that you find him though and I'm sorry that he has gone missing.

I really believe that those who recommended I not get it were sincere in their advice. And it was great advice. I will agree that no one should get a Twin Spot Goby for a home aquarium, no matter how large or established it is.

The only thing is a bit of attitude that came along with the advice, which may not have been intended.

Still no show this morning. Even my wife feels bad about it...and that is saying a lot. Not because she doesn't care, but rather she's not "into" the reef tank and for her to be so concerned tells me that she does pay attention to it. I do catch her looking at it and talking about it more than when it took so long to set up. LOL.

I'm pretty sure he died and my CUC did their job. If he is indeed gone then I will get the Diamond Watchman Goby I initially wanted. It wasn't for a lack of trying on my part. Pretty sad. Almost makes me think the last cave he dug out was his own burial plot. :(

I'm sorry:( I hate that that happened. You really did everything that you could
