Thanks Larry! Good to know! I'm still not sure how I'll plumb it, considering just doing a T off the return line and send a portion of the water through the chiller and back into the sump. Thoughts?
 
Never had UV, but I do run ozone. I love the way it makes my tank crystal clear. Of course you need a controller to be on the safe side. Are you still keeping the 23?
 
Definately keeping the 23, according to Bob Fenner:

"If you're even vaguely considering an investment in any sort of meter, doser, denitrator, ultraviolet sterilizer... STOP, do not proceed to go; buy and use a small ozonizer in conjunction with your skimmer first. Almost all public aquaria utilize ozone with theirs; you should to. The chemical degradation of large organic molecules, responsible for off-color, turbidity, low oxygen and some toxicities by ozone make it's small start-up and operational costs pale."

He went on to add:

"Numerous authors cite the need for carbon filtration, venting to prevent ozone poisoning of livestock, and even hobbyists (!). These fears are largely unfounded. Though I would not directly introduce ozone into a system, the little that intended units produce is dissipated quickly when utilized in a skimmer. The worst that does occur with small ozone generators is increased corrosion of "rubber" materials in your system; well worth the many benefits. You, your fishes and house will not burn up or down, I promise."

I can get an ozonizer pretty cheap, but if it has a controller then the price goes way up... Think I really need one? I planned to use carbon anyway.
 
Nah. You dont really need one. I ran my tank over a year with out one. But since I have one now, Ill never take it off. My controller is about $100. Even A. Calfo and E. Borneman dont object on using ozone. As long as you have a controller, place a small bag of carbon on the skimmer lid hole and have the output of the skimmer dumping into carbon, you will be fine. Thats if you inject ozone into your skimmer. My skimmate production has improved a ton since I utilized ozone. I did notice you got an ER skimmer. If you do the gate valve mod on it, I have a spare 1 1/4 gate valve that you can have. Not sure what size ER you got though.
 
Got a 5-2 and not sure if I need to mod it, it's already way over rated for the tank. Think I'm going to add Ozone, figure a 50 mg/h unit will be more than I need...
 
I was also looking at those canisters you have. I think theres a thread in the DIY forum how to make a calcium reactor out of those things.
 
Hey Eric, if those are the 10" filter housings, you might try to run them inline somewhere. Maybe a twist of a couple of ball valves could get you some extra filtration through a 1 too 10 micron polypropylene and a Carbon. I had a single one on mine just in case something like what happened to Ric happened to me. The 10" carbons take a pretty good pump to push the water through the filter.
 
Russ, I was thinking about doing that with the remaining two if I need more Calcium than just Kalk...

Brian, I thought about that too, figured it would be a great way to run carbon for the ozone, but not sure what I want to do just yet... Thanks for the input though :) As for the CAD, I'm not sure what program it is, they were the drawings provided by the person who is building the tank. I just used MS Paint to make modifications. :)
 
Brian, I'll see if I can get a copy of the file for you, or if you at least want to see an AVI with the tank in full rotation on X and Y axis let me know and I can email it to you.

Stormbringer22, Thanks for the complement! I'm trying to cover all my bases, I'm tired of having to take a tank apart just to do something minor.

I picked up my OM Squirt yesterday, its TINY!!!! I'll post some pics in a second...
 
That would be cool Eric, I want to try playing with the drawing a little bit if possible. Spent some of the summer learning Autocad but didn't get to do any 3-d stuff. Seem like a good file to start playing with and see how they built it.

I sent you the AVI's, you might just try to start from scratch with AutoCad, it was alway easier for me than to try to figure out what someone else did. Best advise I can give you when building 3D is to keep an eye on your axis', they can really be decieving. Just when you think you've done a end of line loc you change views and you're not even close. :)
