Decided to rebuild the 40g after all..
Earlier this month I re-arranged my frag/softie tank and put some of the rock in the 40g that I was using to hold my foxface and panther grouper until I finished my 180g. .
In the process of doing that I wound up killing my foxface with a nitrate/nitrite spike.. (forgot to turn the return pump back on)
So I decided to rebuild the 40g since I wouldn't need the 180g as quickly..
So this is what my frag/softie wound up looking like...
For the 40g I am using a stand made out of 80/20 (pieces of a old test stand from work)..
I am reusing the twin 175w MH setup I had on it before.
C2C overflow
RIO return pump.
Two RW-8 powerheads..
Running a no-name skimmer..
2-150w eheim heaters
10g sump
Trying black Diamond blasting media for the sand...
Using the rock from my frag..
Since 90% of the equipment was just laying around, the build happened in a 6hr period..
Everything together, dropping the return into a powerhead so I can see where it is pointing..
Moved a few coral over..
More coral and a emerald crab..
The coral I moved were an acan, duncan and a trumpet, along with several mushrooms..
The acan, duncan and trumpet had suddenly bleached is why I moved them first..
All this was done Oct 3rd
Started playing with the skimmer, and by the 7th had this coming out of it...
Now for the bad, I think I am gonna have to redo the rocks .. I have a hair algae and aiptasia explosion.... This is around the 10th...
This weekend (Oct12th)
Cleaned the outside glass up this weekend, and did a 20g WC.
The acan is starting to fluff back up, duncan is puffed up and starting to extend its tentacles,, was able to feed it today..
Trumpet is back to normal..
Looks like the emerald is working on the hair algae..
Still have lots of Aiptasia showing....
