400 watt MH lighting

Got a 400 watt set up 3 days ago and was wondering if i could use a 250 bulb in a 400 watt set up and the ballest gets real hot is that ok.

No, a 400 watt ballast would fry a 250 watt bulb.

mh ballasts are wattage specific.
i used to have a 400 and a 250 over my tank yes I know strange setup...
well accidentally put the 250 bulb in the 400 socket. looked good for about 1/10th of a second
