400w MH

Would this be just to much for a 40 breeder tank? I found an amazing deal on one and not sure if I should run with it or trade it off for a 250w.

talk to lunchbucket he had a 400 over his 20 gal. and if your talking about travis's MH then I would pick it up no matter what as that is a great deal.

If you want SPS only I say go for it, is the fixture double ended? What brand are we talking about?

Totally mixxed tank, SPS,LPS,zoos out the wazoo, shrooms.... it's a Lumen Arc III reflector with a PFO magnetic ballast 400w. Single end I do beleive. And yes Shifty I am most definately buying it LMAO just not sure if I should try to run with it or see if I can find a 250w DE with a galaxy ballast.... I love those things.

EDIT: and I still have the 4 T5 reflectors, end caps, bulbs and icecap ballast sitting in storage... hmmmm

I thought I would add that I used to run dual 400's over my 75 gal. and that was a mixed tank. everything loved it even the shrooms that were on the top rocks did. the only reason I switched to 250's is to help with elec. I never had a prob. with heat and such

I ran two 175w halides and two VHO actinics over my 75.
Everything grew well- including Acropora.

Two 400 watters over a 75 is overkill plain and simple.

look what this fella grew with 175's in a 120

conclusion: wattage isn't everything
