400W SE MH users

Been running three 14K Hamiltons over a 180, and was wondering what the rest of the 400W world was using. No supplemental lighting, by the way. Seems like my choices are 12K Reeflux, 14K Coralvue, Hamilton, Ushio, 15K XM, 20K Coralvue, Radium, Reeflux, Ushio, XM. Let's hear what You like.

I have been advised away from the Coralvue 20K, just installed the Reeflux 20K yesterday. I have read about longevity issues with the Reeflux 20K in other strings. Time will tell for me and my 400W Reeflux 20K's. I ran 11 months with Reeflux 12K on Coralvue Eballasts. I liked them well enough and just wanted to see how the tank ran with the 20K Reeflux. It does have higher PAR output than the 12K after all.

There are tons of Radium fans, but you need to run them on the correct ballast to overdrive them and then they have a shorter life span...6 months if memory serves.

What ballast are you running?

Mike

I run XM 20k 400w with Coralvue ballasts. I am getting great growth and color on my SPS! I love the crisp white look with a touch of blue. When I first installed the XM's I hated them. It looked like a tank full of windex. lol. But after about a week the bulbs changed color and now I love them! I do not run any supplemental lighting.

I run reeflux 12k in lumenbrights. have been quite happy. Am considering when its time to switch to try the xm10k's and then use supplemental actinics (arent really needed with the 12k's), but Ive seen such great results from others and their xm's.

Running M135 ballasts.

The reeflux 20K is higher then the reefllux 12K??? I can't find a reeflux 20K on dr. sanjay's site, where do you find these numbers? (I'm looking into changing my T5 system to pure 400W MH w/ no supplements)

On a 60" 100 gallon tank I'm running two 400w SE XM20k bulbs on a Hamilton dual-ballast with a seperate ballast / 250w SE ushio 12k bulb in the center, no supplemental lighting. When I set up my new tank to replace this 100-gallon setup I plan on using the same two 400w XM20k setup, but will likely add two more 250w XM 20k bulbs in the center. The new tank is only 24" deep, so I shouldn't need the bigger 400w bulbs except over the corals which require the most light, which will be placed below these lights while everything else is under the center 250w bulbs.
