40B drilling

Lol....I just broke one last weekend drilling. Probably my fault. Cracked at the end of hole. Was using the brs drill press, hole saw and it was on petco tetra 40b from recent sale.

They are replacing the Aqueon brand with Tetra. They are both drillable tanks except on the bottom of the Aqueon. I picked up 40 tanks for the fish room build. Thanks Petco.

The only thing I know is that I saw a sticker on the Aqueon tank do not drill bottom of tank & I purchased 1 Tetra & drilled the side to check & it was ok. I do not know if you can drill the bottom of the Tetra.

Funny story....my first experience with Petco Sept 1 I went in to buy a 40b and it was the aqueon brand. I looked it up and down and then saw the tempered glass sticker on the bottom. I call the lady over and ask her if all the 40b are tempered and she told me no. I said oh yea then whats that sticker on the bottom for.....she looks at it and calls her manager "what does tempered mean". I died laughing and just walked out I dont think I will be going back to that particular one every again.

Go their for the dollar a gal sale not advise. The tanks are cheaper with that sale then I could buy them at wholesale.

That's incorrect. The 40B from Aqueon is drillable on the bottom. I bought mine last year at petco during the dollar a gallon sale and drilled 3 holes in the bottom. I used a jig, new hole saw from glass holes, and a corded drill. Worked like a charm and took 15 minutes to do.

Any pictures?

Not the greatest shots but you get the idea. If I had to do it again I would do two internal overflows with 2 1 inch drains and 2 3/4 returns versus the 1 1/4 drain and 3/4 returns I have now.

The smaller the drain, the noisier it can be. I would have done a single 1.5" durso.

got my 40b now just need to figure out how to drill it. Nice little sticker at the bottom is telling me not to drill there so there goes that idea. don't want the plumbing hanging out crazy far from the back as I may put the tank in the living room. Hmmmmm what to do what to do.

If you need help, I'm a super handy guy with these types of things, plus I'm a pipefitter so I have a lot of tips and tricks with plumbing :)

Does it say tempered on it. When I bought mine it said do not drill because it voids Aqueon's warranty o the product. Aqueon's website says that the bottom of the tank is plate and not tempered. I can't speak for other brands though. Drilling is super easy. Just take you time and use water and a jig

nope says that bad boys is tempered might just find someone that has one that I can drill the bottom I like the idea of no plumbing in the back.
