Hey guys.....

Looking to do a DIY sump from a 40B. Im running an Alpha 200 skimmer and want a refug. Anyone have a plan they have used that works well?

Skimmer => Fuge => Return :

Skimmer => Return <= Fuge :

Going Skimmer => Return <= Fuge will alow you to make the fuge deeper as well as make the flow slower. If you just go straight across the fuge flow is dictated by the flow from the return pump.

Do you have the dimensions of the baffles? I will be running a glass-holes 700gph overflow and either a ehiem 1260 or 1262 so not sure which direction to go.

Sorry, I had a million other things going on yesterday. When I get home tonight I'll measure the baffles on each. I used glass on the first one, and acrylic on the second one so you can definitely go either direction. I went acrylic on the second especially to use black on the fuge panel to keep more of the light in the fuge than going all over the sump.

I actually followed the plans from melves reef version f. I went skimmer,return,fuge option. I went 1" between the three bubble trap baffled with a 1.5" gap between the bottom on the center baffle. Looks good so far just have one more baffle to install.

I got this from BenjieC but I was told Rod designed and built it. I really like the design of it, works great!

i did the one with the middle return on my current 75 gal sump and am pretty pleased with it so far. it's similar to the one on melevs site. i like it because my tank is drilled in the middle.

Ive set up a few tanks in my days, and this design is by FAR the best I have ever used. Jim, I still have a big center divider. Its yours if you want it.

Can you give a few details on it Rod ??? I'm guessing the long run is the return portion ??? I don't know if that design would work with the skimmer him or I are using since theyre so large (his is a 10" x 18" footprint, while the skimmer space needed is usually a touch more if you ever want to get it out again). I was originally going to try a 30L for my sump because my listed footprint was 11.5 x 7.75, but after getting my A170 that idea went right out the window and went to a 40B..... :lolspin:

I like to do the basic styles because I don't want to infringe on your concept. :hammer:

I know the basic theory is that with the return pump at the end of the channel in the back the micro bubbles will float to the top before they even have a chance to get sucked into the return pump.

If anyone would like to come check it out in person or would like the measurements of the panels let me know.

Hey Rod.....good to see a familiar member on here ;). I took a 2-3 year break but I'm on my way to getting back in. Thanks for the offer but I am done with the sump. I may end up building another so.....
