40g breeder sump build

Ive managed to get my local DIY home store to cut glass baffles to fit my new tank, but this is "single strength" glass. $25 total. My local glass shop can cut the same baffles using qtr inch glass smoothing the top edge and rounding the corners along the bottom edge $25 per piece. Which option should I choose, is there an alternative glass spec? I'm put off mixing glass tank with acrylic baffles.

I paid $35 for 2 pieces of 1/4 inch fully polished for a 40B. $25 per piece is high but not unheard of I had estimates up to $70. See if they will cut you a quantity deal and get 4 pieces so you have enough for another sump when the time comes. You might be able to do better just check all glass shops in your area. I assume the "single strength" is 1/8" glass. Too thin IMO.

Use the ¼" glass. Ask to see a sample of unpolished edges. The cut edges from the shop I used were square, but not sharp, fine for a sump. You probably don't need to round the edges, either.

I should be clear, I've rounded the bottom corners so they don't cut into the silicone of the breeder tank. I'm think 1/8 is a bit thin. At this rate, my DIY sump/ Fug will cost $145. Could I have bought it cheaper online I wonder??
