40gal sump/refugium Question

I just finished building my 40 gal breeder sump. The refugium section is 12" x 12" how much live sand and live rock should I place in this section, and what else should be placed in it?

Also I have a chance of getting this live rock/sand for free that someone has they are tearing down there established tank good idea or bad idea any risks involved? What should I do .Thanks Mike

My current tank 75 Gallon with 80lbs live rock and 80lbs of live sand currently have 2 clowns and 2 snails.

I skipped the sand bed in my a refugium and just put all live rock in it with Cheato

I had a DSB in it, but removed all the sand

Theirs lots of threads available on the pros and cons of a DSB in a Refugium

You run the risk of hitchhikers you dont want from the used Liverock. But if its a tank you know and trust it shouldnt be too bad. I also have live rock rubble and chaeto in my sump. you could put the sand in there too, its up to you.
