430gal., L-shaped display

Thanks, DVNO!

Still fighting heat issues in the display. Ran most of the evening with only one light, the canopy doors open, and a Vornado blowing on the tank. Maybe the algae will die. I've set up a meeting with the company that came up with the exhaust fan idea to find something that moves more air.

In the meantime, the dottys seem to still be playing the spawning game, but I've seen no egg masses yet.

Downstairs, there a load of spawning going on. I've counted 49 of these egg packets, possibly from RSF (formally DIBS) nassarius.

And a new egg mass tonight, maybe cerith:

Along with a whole bunch of ciliates(?):

That last photo at around 200%:

As you can see, the eggs have started dividing, but haven't hit blastula (roughly 128 cells) stage yet.

Wow, a split and your display still isn't finished. ;)

Nice pics of the eggs...this is rather impressive as ever time I get eggs from something (usually clowns), the male eats them all.

Thanks, y'all!

a split and your display still isn't finished.

Well, if it were finished, what else would there be to say? :)

I pulled out another bucket full of hair algae yesterday. My real worry is that it tries to clog the fingers of the overflow very quickly, so the water level goes up a couple times a day. Fortunately it's easy to see when it's happening, as the look when the water hits the bottom of the Eurobracing is very noticeable. And at that point there's still quite a while to respond.

Sorry, no new FTS. And right now I'm running without most of the lights until I solve the heat issue (down to a little below 80 right now).

Thanks for the split!

I'm currently looking for my first house...and now my eye keeps wandering to areas where i could knock out a wall for a tank lol

Nice split!

Are you having any luck solving the heat issue? Or at least how are you solving it for now?

Well, you know, it's always easier if there's no wall there in the first place and you get to build a new one around the tank. But I know what you mean.... :)

Actually, I have the tank running at about 80 degrees right now with all but one light on. I have the canopy open on the bathroom and foyer side and have a Vornado plugged in with the last light so it goes on and off automatically with the light. That seems to have solved it until I can get the HVAC designer guy out who recommended this exhaust fan in the first place.

Well, I caught one of the ceriths at it tonight:

And, further development on the mystery eggs. They have become asymmetrical and are moving around the egg cases like crazy. I haven't seen any empty egg cases yet:

And, in other news, the female Orchid Dottyback is finally thin and begging for food. The male only leaves his hole to chase her away!! :) I'm not ready to give 'em a try. Maybe next nest.

Andy, those are great pics, it will be cool to watch the progress on the mystery eggs and see what develops.

The purple tangs finally got new yellow buddies today. Boy, are they happy....

A FTS:

And the snail photo of the day:

Looks like they might actually be running around on a little foot!

The snails are getting close. Herbivores to the rescue! :)

So, the egg case:

And a close-up of one of the snails:

The ceriths seem to be coming along as well:

They are absolutely gorgeous animals. I took another with a little different lighting and a little more magnification.
