Sure. We know what Cs look like. They are Os with one side erased. Sheesh. :)

A question: Are jawfish supposed to live in trios?

Andy
Looks like you have a ménage a trois going there.

Andy, how shy was your Dussumieri when you brought him home? Mine is very shy and on day 3 in QT stays hidden all the time. Any time I walk around the corner, he darts in his tube to hide.

Mine was definitely like that for about a week. It's only now starting to stay out in the front when I'm anywhere nearby. I think part of it was that I added more hiding places for it to feel more secure. I also added a relatively large dither fish to try to coax it out more.

I think we're about the right size to be predators of these fish in the wild, so I assume that's part of the issue.

How's it look? Any pictures? I can't wait to see him.... :)

Very nice! What a pretty fish, nice and fat. It looks like it doesn't trust your camera much, though. :)

That just made me think of something else, though. I needed to shift some fish and rocks around and wound up giving the Duss some more hiding places. After that, he was much more willing to stay out when I was around.

Thanks, Jason!

So, I just finished a big project and thought it might be nice to do a FTS update. Most of the long algae has died away or been eaten. Now I'm fighting the cyano monster. Normal cycle.

I put in Montipora and Acropora test frags a few days ago to see if I can support corals. So far, so good.

You can see in the photo that one of my lights is out. I'm still fighting heat issues, so I have the lights on a rolling blackout.

Sorry, the glass on this side is a little dirty.

Huh, you havent heard of threesome have you?

Yeah, well the threesome didn't last very long. So, it looks like I've wound up with a pair and two singles of the yellow-heads. The two blue spots alternate between being all the way across the tank from one another and setting up shop 6" from each other. Go figure.

Thanks, Zack! The breeding room hasn't changed much since the last photo except that there's more cyano now. Actually, that's not completely true. My kiddo was hot to have a tank so I decided that I would clear out one of the 90s downstairs for her. She's researching the fish she wants to keep and I'm teaching her about community tank planning. All with a tank that's already on the system so it's not any more work for me. So, her tank now has a sandbed and a few firefish.

I took a bunch of photos for you. Here's the url:

I'll try to see what I can do with the frag tank, but it's not much to see. Just an eggcrate grill draped across a 120 and not a whole lot of corals on there. I need to take care of the heat stuff before I go nuts with the corals.

Andy, how are you taking your FTS shots? What are you using to sew the frames together? Your Yellows look so small in that thing!

It's actually just the awful kit lens that came with the camera. It goes down to become a fairly wide-angle lens. I stand back about 10 feet and take one photo. Afterward, I crop out the black space.

Time for a filefish update. In my care since Dec. 31, 2008, so 109 days. The female has gained tons of energy reserves (fat stored in the back on either side of the dorsal fin) and has a nice rounded belly. The male continues to look well. Both now look much better than when I got them.

In other news, my frogspawn has decided to start a new colony:

Note the daughter colony has started attaching to the rocks.

And this is really cool. You can see the mesenterial filaments in the stretched tissue between mother and daughter colonies:

That is amazing to see. I've had pavona do something similar for me, but not any of my LPS. Great documentation.

That's spectacular...

exactly what lenses do you have to generate all these wonderful shots? I'd use my Canon 1D, but my kit is more for sports than closeups.
