48x36x24 in the works

so the drain from the tank goes to the tank on the left (the refugium) then it drains to the sump and then back to the tank?

2 drains on the display tank. One to the sump, one to the fuge. One drain on the frag tank (not shown) that also goes to the sump.

For my skimmer and yes to hide my equipment. To handle the overflow of water in my tanks if I have a power outage.

ianiwayne, more info on your gyre flow setup please. do you have a diagram of how your pumps are positioned and how you have them programmed?

You can see all the pump locations in that picture. The back of my rock work is flat so what I have running is a vertical gyre setup. I had it running like this the in my old tank too. The left vortech on the back wall runs in reefcrest mode, the right one runs in short pulse mode to create a small wave.

Nice setup ianiwane. I like the light rack. Is it EMT? Simple yet stylish....and inexpensive.

Yes it is emt, its a very cheap way of hanging your lights. Most expensive part is the emt bender.

A Gyre is just a swirling current. Im not quite sure how successful of a current that'd be. Id imagine there should be more of a random flow. Unless its just a variation of a gyre.

It works pretty well. Growth is good. I had a tank set up previously with it for over a year. Only downfall is that the growth can be a bit weird sometimes. Meaning the growth tends to lean in one direction. That is the reason I recently added the one vortech on a wave mode. It does disrupt the gyre a bit (my gyre isn't as fast anymore) but ad the same time I do get the back and forth action from the wave. Its pretty cool. Here is an article on the gyre flow.

I could recognize the EMT from a mile away, as I am an electrician. I have so many pipe benders I dont know what to do with them all. I have indeed hung a light setup with EMT before on a customers tank. He was stoked on how cool it looked and the price, $2.00 to hang the lights. Anyway your location is 'SF', San Francisco??

Yup, San Francisco. A friend of mine hung his light setup like this a while back. After we all saw how easy it was and nice it looked, we have been hanging our lights in this fashion ever since.

Yeah, the one sided growth would be the concern. Its good that you have it squared away with the addition of a Vortech, though. The tank looks remarkable.

Ian, What LFS do you shop at in the city? My brother lives there and I only visit 6th Ave Aquarium (6th and Clement) since its right around the corner. I never spend enough time to search for others. Any recommendations for LFS. Sorry to steal the thread William.

Yeah sorry William. Brian, next time you are in the city go to ocean treasures and aquatic central. Email me as well if you want to stop by and look at my tank. Sounds like I live pretty close to your brother.

so I wanted to add a frag tank underneath the tank in the stand. it would be an elevated frag tank that would drain to a sump. it's a 20x20x10 tank. anything i should be aware of in plumbing this? it seems easy enough, i've had an elevated fuge on my other system so rather than having a fuge, i can just have my tank drain from the main tank into the frag tank then into the sump. right?
