5-6 gallons NPS connected to 250g system ? Good or Bad idea ?

Hi,

Since May, I had the idea of adding an NPS tank to my actual system. A little 5-6 gallons ish tank. I though of letting time pass since I just build my new system and didn't have time yet to complete it ... but I cannot forget that idea. A little 5 gallons would not cost me much to add to my current system.

But is it a good idea ??

My plan is to keep suncoral, at least begin with one and check how it goes. To my knowledge it will be much easier to feed it in a small tank then try to feed it. My idea was to close a valve to disconnect the tank from the main system, then feed the suncoral, then let the food circulate in the tank for a couple hours and then reopen the valve so water can go through the filtration system. Is it a good idea ? Will 1 suncoral need a lot of feeding so that I will pollute my whole system ? Or will it be better for me just to try a sun coral in my frag tank ?

I read a lot, but I cannot quantify the amount of food to keep a suncoral thriving.

Here's a link to my build

Thank you

Sounds like a lot of work to keep a sun coral and I would worry about forgetting to reopen that valve. A dedicated tank is best for NPS but if you just want to give some a try why not pick up a colony of dendros and place them somewhere you can reach easily for feeding, they eat quickly and stay open decently with lights on.

I think it's a fantastic idea. You can think of the NPS tank as an autofeeder for your main tank.

I would just have a very slow tank turnover about 1x per hour or two rather than trying to remember to open and close a valve. An MP10 would be perfect for water motion. You could basically cover every surface with sun coral colonies, even the walls.

Thank you Goingpostal and Matt_Wandell

I just bought THE coral bible, corals of the world which is AWESOME !!! I will have to search for the section on Suncoral and Dendro to have more information.

But I will definetely keep the idea in mind. :D

How many time a day should I feed my Suncoral ?? And this question may sound stupid but How do you guys use a turkey baster to give mysis to the suncoral ? Do you squirt it or drop it in/on each head ??

To my logic it should be drop but I never own a suncoral :P

Thanks
