500 Gallon Build

Very Nice tank and setup, smooth looking time Lapse. I really love the Bright tanks and not the blueish ones. Soon i will have my own 300gallon tank. I will go for the dsr principle.

I was going to say.... I hope your male swallowtail does OK. My female was not very happy with the male last week and beat him up pretty good. Also chewed off half of his fins.
Your tank looks like a great candidate for a gyre flow. Did you ever look into the maxpect Gyre? Your tank looks great, but the only thing I did not see was surface agitation. Point those power heads up a little more.
Daniel.

Hopefully making my order in the next couple weeks. Been going back and forth with Mike on questions. He's talked me into trying H2Overflows. Wanted to follow up with you again before I pull the trigger.

Are you still happy with the H2Overflows? Are two enough or would you have went with a third if you were to do it over? Would you have went with a different overflow system altogether? I notice in your pictures the overflows are a bit to the side of the braces. Do you think there would be maintenance / access issues if I had them put them directly under my braces? Is it possible to get them somewhat quiet?

Also just wanted to confirm you used their Siphon Stoppers. Do you think 4 are sufficient?

Thanks!

Yep they work just fine and have been quiet. In the beginning I forgot to put a piece in each one to reduce noise and they were pretty bad. The top cover comes right off with ease so I dont see a problem with a brace. Mine are just where they are because it is centered out evenly. There are 4 of the returns as well and I had to turn them sideways a bit otherways they were shooting in air bubbles. But they do their job to stop back siphone if turning the pump off.

The male is the one I just put in and was going after my watanabei. The swallowtail is just fine back downstairs, the watanabei is now healing up his fins.

There is plenty of surface agitation, if your refering to the above tank with me in it, the lights are going through sunset and the pumps are in dusk/dawn mode with a slow constant flow. I have no interest in the gyros, if its not apex controlled I dont want it :)

Added some more additions tonight a little while ago. Goniopora, elegance, brain, and gargonian added and beginning to open up. Pair of triggers went in and the male was out in no time. Female taking longer and I see she has a couple scratches on her head from burrowing in the rockwork but getting braver and coming out more. I never thought triggerfish would be that shy!

Powder blue and blond naso went in earlier in the week.

Along with the few pieces of coral I picked up today, I finally got another female watanabei to go back with my male! Egg crate cover this time, no jumping out the night before transfering into the display (that really sucked but glad it was the female and not the male). And also a little sailfin tang.

Everyone and everything is doing awesome, except for my poor clam which was most likely too soon. The clam was also in the rockwork getting himself wedged in to I tried to get him out and may have effed his foot, I duno never seemed rigt after that.

Mata tang is my most aggressive fish and also the fastest growing! Blue hippo has probobly doubled in size too from a few months ago.

Tired of suicide jumpers. Have lost several fish on the floor. Put an end to that today. Turned up my lights some to counteract and then turned them back some as it looked like too much. Comparing snapshot images from the camera it looked a brighter then before.

Nice videos- your fish selection certainly makes the tank look a bit smaller than it is in video but the rockwork is great.

Purple will look great in the tank!

A little jealous since the balance of our tank decided a small purple wasn't right for our tank and it's other inhabitants...

Thanks for the nice big purple! I figured he would hold his own with my mean angel in there and sure enough. Angel never tried anything at all and they are good together.

The Fowleri just started coming out yesterday and is checking things out.
