500G (84X48X30)- NOW REAL !

I have about 250 lbs of rock in the main tank, and the few extra pieces left over from the 300lbs that I purchased are in the sump.

Beautiful baby! She looks happy in your tank. I would make sure that there is no epoxy comes in contact with any tissue.

You have some beautiful corals and an awesome set up.
Thanks for sharing:)

Given that its a direct decendent of a elegance coral that has been in captivity for 15 years or so (not sure if this one is a direct baby of that one or a subsequent generation) I hope it will have a high probability of survival barring some stupid mistake or accident.

Nah, hes not. Cant remember off the top of my head, but I think XM's with e-ballasts? Crap... no... thats not right either. Something like that though.

After seeing the results on the nepturion 14,000K 400s though, are you considering a switch Sanjay? They seem to be the same bulb as the G-man 14,500K Corals as well. Massive outputs though, and HQI rated at that so they have the output and they last. I think there is some potential for this bulb.

Hi Sanjay or anyone else who might know this. Are you using Iwasaki 400watt 6500K mh?

Right now, I am running the Giesmann 400W Coral lamps with Icecap electronic ballasts. This is part of my experiment to track light decay over time. I like the look of these lamps on my tank.

I just got the Ushio 14K lamps to test, the 400W moguls, 250W DE, and 175W.

We run the 400W off of IC ballasts over our tank and like the color. Since they were supposed to be the same as the BLV Nepturions, I didn't think you were going to be testing the Ushio's ? Either way we will look forward to the results of your testing. When would you expect those results to make their way up onto your web site ? weeks, months, etc ?

Thanks again and thanks for sharing your tank setup with us :). I will definitely be wanting updates on your elegance :)

Come on Sanjay, test some 1000W lamps! :D :D I sure would like to know what my 1000W Ushio 20K lamps do in the area of par, and how quickly they age. :)

an interesting thing I have observed in just about every light study I have seen is that as wattage increases actual effeciency decreases.

However there is another way of looking at it say 2 400W units put out as much "light" as a single 1000W you still might have some advantages with the 1000 watt unit.
1. the single unit will have the light more concentrated in a smller area therefore giving you more penetration.
2. The single unit requires 1/2 the hardware as compared to the two lights would, reducing initial cost by probably around 40%

Where an added issue falls in today is the cost of energy. For an example if we burn the 1,000 Watt light 8 hours a day we are using up 2,920 KWH a year and @ .20 per KWH it means our annual energy cost is $584.00. With the two 400 W Bulbs the cost would be $467.00. For a savings of $117 per year in energy. With the two bulbs you also be spending money replacing two light bulbs a year so the question then comes out to if 2-400W bulbs cost $117 more than a single 1,000 Watt bulb. As well as what the difference in initial investment was to offset a long range savings or loss.

There are probably 20 other factors to consider here as was. How much surface area do you have for locating your lights. How tall that tank is that you need to penetrate. What types of coral are you working with? How do you want to arrange those corals and lighting needs. I think the listing can go on and on.
