51 Cardinals

I was just curious if anyone else has had this happen before. My male spit out 51 little baby banggai cardinals last week!! Normally he onlywill have batches in the 10 to 12 range. What is the larget batch u have had? I will try to get some pics up tomarrow.

About 5 years ago I was getting 20-30.

WOW !! I think the most I got was 20 before I lost one of my breeding pair. That's fantastic. Good luck raising them.

wow-- congrats- thats a very impressive feat.
just to show you how long I've been on reef central- there are posts from maybe 2002, 2003 w/ a few folks having banggai clutch sizes around the number you mention. Not sure if its was 51 or 57, but i do recall it was in the 50s. This is not common, usually the 20-30 number you cite is more appropriate. but big males have larger buccal cavities (mouths) and therefore can hold more eggs

3 days of collecting fry. I caught him the first night he spit out 22 of them. On the next day I noticed that he still was carrying more, so got ready for night 2. That night he spit out 28 more. A total of 50 now.
The day after that I was talking to a fellow hobbyist about the whole proccess and noticed 1 more little guys swimming around in the main display.

I have been going trough so much BBS between the SI True Percs and the Banggai i have been going through about 2 cultures a day. Thanks for the info on the past history. Good to hear that some others have had that many before.
