Anyone know of a local place that sells 55 gallon plactic drums? I would be using it for water storage...

I got one from a cannery in palmetto for $20, it was pretty dirty (Food stuff) but it came clean. they always have at least 6 sitting out in front for sale.

Crowder Bros. sells them as well. Or you could use a nice new clean brute trash can. Any of the 55g drums will have to be cleaned first.

Crowder Bros is where? They sell the 55 gallon drums used for water storage? do you know how much they are?

Crowder bros. is on manatee ave. They sell used ones for around $20 I think. I would go with a rubbermaid brute trash can from Home depot.

rubbermaid brute trash cans work great.
The only draw backs i've found is that they are very expensive and the largest ones I can find at home depot are 44 gallons.

The drums I got at vigo are 220 liters or about 58 gallons and are only $4.

I know about the ones from vigo on the tamp thread because I started that one as well. I've read online and in some posts that the brutes can actually leach, so I was looking for something new, that was made specifically to hold water..

I've used the brutes for a number of years without any problems. I've always used it for my rodi holding tank.

I'm currently cleaning out vigo's, because I need larger containers because I now have a larger tank.

Once I switch over, I will probably sell the 3 brutes I have for half what you can buy them for new, if your interested.

ive read that the roughnecks have a mold inhibitor in them. I use them currently and had some whiteish growths in the cans but after a few cleanings - it has dissapeared. I guess its a moot point tho because i have vigos too. be careful if you buy em - i didnt really look em over - and 2 had cracks

fwiw - the vigos are food grade containers - they have it embossed in the pastic

I have a 220 a 30 and a 10 gal set ups. I use the brute cans, and I bought a set of wheels so its easier to move around. Good luck
