I was given a 55 gallon drum. It was originaly filled with soda syrup. What would be the best way to clean it?

Lots of water and salt. Are you sure it was never cleaned with soap??

I have no idea. It's clean on the inside. No syrup or anything.

Just try the salt and water for the time being.

After it is cleaned--Put some sw and a snail or two into it. If after a week and all is still OK, it should be just fine.

did it come with spigot at the bottom or did you install that? If so, how did you install it? What did you use to make the seal? I am looking to do something similar but I'm nervous about making a seal on the rounded surface. I was thinking about using a uniseal.

How did you do this? thanks

I use similar (but smaller) containers all the time when brewing beer as the primary fermenter. It won't leak. The shank is threaded. A rubber washer and a nut on the inside tighten and distort the curved side flat. It's only plastic.
