55 Gallon Tank Stand Plans

Hey guys.

I am finally ready to get my tank set up. I have a 55 gallon tank and bought a stand for it from Wal-Mart, which is made of nothing more than flakeboard. There is a sticker on it that says "Do not exceed 550 pounds filled." I know for a fact that the tanks will weigh a ton more! Does anybody have any quick stand plans that I could look at to build one that will hold more weight than 550lbs?

You will be fine with what you have. A 55 probably only holds 45 to 50 gallons. 8 pounds per gallon = 350 pounds max. Add 50#s of rock and 30 of sand, an d you are well under the load of 550#s.
