WHAT A GREAT AND COST EFFECTIVE WAY TO GET GREAT FLOW IN YOUR TANK!

adnup, Glad it's working for you. You did a great job ,and thanks for the glass drilling, Great pics BTW. Ted

I did not know if I wanted to try cutting a hole in my tank now it just doesn't sound so bad. Thanks for sharing this with all of us. Oh and I did not mean any thing by "Is Liquid Nails toxic ?" Just know that I have a hood on my tank and the under side stay wet. Just a ?

adnup - nice job! I'm working on a 90 gal and running the overflow coast to coast using two 1-1/2" bulkheads, my question is you mention some gurgling in the overflow, do you have any 90 degree elbows in there? I see you have the modified durso on the outside of the tank but does that work the same without the 90 elbow? If so that would save alot of realestate, I could just make the overflow stick out 2" but if I used an elbow it would need to be at least 4"-5" away from the back wall.

Well, yesterday I cut the top trim off the tank. Somewhere along the line I read someone saying it was hard to do.
So I used my dremel and cut along the center line of the top of the tank. I used a gasket scrapper to pry under the trim. For the most part it came right off and was very easy....

Heres the sump I'm going to use. Its not pretty but it works. Thanks to Steven M for the Weld-On to fix the leak in this "Freebie"

I have a similar sump design/setup and you probably need to add a sock filter to prevent too much junk flowing nto your skimmer ot recycle back to the tank; it might also create lots of micro bubble into your return pump if you do not introduce a baffle... not to mention the noise...

nice progress

artc1688 - that was just the mock up of the pvc. I will use a sock and a longer tube on the drain. I usually make it long enough to extend into the water level in the sump so its quite. And on the return line I'll put a 90 facing down so as not to (hopefully) send any bubbles into the tank.

On a budget - - what is the bill up to at this point?

Looks like I'm at about $162 out of pocket

$20 tank
$17 new top trim
$20 ish for 2by's
$20 ish for pine and luan
$10 pvs, valve etc...
$75 for power compact lights (good deal I couldn't pass up)
$0 sump - I had it, could have used a rubbermaid tote for @ $5
$0 Mag 9.5 - I had it, could have used a smaller mag or gen-x @$50
