MY METAL STAND IS ON MASONARY FOUNDATION AT MY HOUSE BUT I HAD TO SHIM IT 1" ON ONE SIDE AND LIKE 1/2 INCH ON OTHER END. FLOOR HAS RAISED AREA IN MIDDLE. MY TANK IS 10' LONG AND GOING TO BE HEAVY FULL.

I USED SHIMES EVERY FT ALL AROUND THE PERIMETER OF BASE AND ALSO BOTTOM CROSS MEMBERS.IS 1" STACKED SHIMS TO HIGH? THE SHIMS ARE RATED FOR 10K-15K LBS SO I DONT C PROBLEM BUT LET ME HEAR WHAT YOU REFFERS THINK.

A 550 gallon tank, water alone, is on the order of 4500 lbs-that's the water, not the tank/stand/live rock/substrate. Figure it'll be somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 to 3.5 tons full. Do you really want to risk that much weight on an uneven floor?

i would form up a box an pour a bucket or two of self leveling cement into it....unless you are really good with a trowel then you can level out the box and trowel it off using high strength instead of the self leveling stuff...

i dont think i would trust 500+ gallons of water to shims

if you look at my build thread (Crazzy Cube 335) it shows I placed the empty tank on the unlevel floor, and placed wood blocks till it was perfectly level, once level, I cut the soffet to the exact measurements. after I made the stand and put it in place it was completely level, not even off 1mm. I dont like to shim anything... doing it right, and easier..
