hey,

I have a 55g reef. its about a year old but couple weeks back i had a problem when my heater turned on to make it about 95 degrees in the tank!! :(

i lost alot of stock. the survivors are 2 clowns, yellow watchman goby...rbta...GSP...and a couple heads of my favia and my snails..emerald crab and scarlet hermit.

Now the water is stable and at 83.4 degrees. all params seem fine.

i was wondering what else to stock...my idea...

list- 2 occel. clown(already have)
yellow wathcman goby(already have)
copperband butterfly
whitecheek tang
and maybe a small clown goby or something

i do every other week 20% water changes.

does this sound good?

thanks

HI Kevin

Drop the whitecheek tang, a 55 is too small for that kind of fish.
Regarding the Copperband, I would not do it, but I may be a bit extreme.
Why don't you have a look for some nice reefsafe wrasse?
Other great fishes are these little basslets, either Pseudochromis species or Gramma, Assessor, Liopoproma, Chromis.
Also the great group of gobies has a lot to offer for a 55er.
I would add a pistol shrimp for the YWG, it is so interesting to watch them.

Good luck

Jens

hey thanks alot...some good ideas...but i wouldnt go with the psueds because they like to eat shrimps and such.
hmm maybe a royal gramma.
any other suggestions is welcome.
maybe a yellow tang...as i hear they like 55g sizes. mor tolerate then other tangs.

thanks

I had a yellow tang in my 55g for a while....once it got settled in, it became VERY aggressive. personally I wouldn't do it again. I thought about a blue eyed Kole but I dont think I want to do another tang to risk the aggression again. How about a nice angel or wrasse? I have 3 fairy wrasses in my 55g and so far they all get along great!

Take out the copper band and the whitecheek.

Here is a good list.
2 Ocellaris Clowns
1 Yellow Watchman Goby (Get him a Pistol Shirmp)
1 Bicolor Blenny
1 Flasher Wrasse

No tang.......definitely no tang for any reason(especially if you want a CBB, they wont coexist in such small quarters and you will have unbelievably high nutrient level)

I HAVE A CBB IN MY 55 AND HAVE HAD HIM/HER(LIKELY A HER BUT WE WONT GO INTO THIS) FOR 2 YEARS NOW AND IT JUST SURVIVED A MOVE AS WELL BUT SHE IS THE ONLY FISH IN THE TANK BESIDES A CLOWN

FLAME ANGEL, coral beauty, six line wrasse, blennies , gobies, royal grammas(will spawn) a mandarin if you have a very nice and loaded and large fuge...

again heck no to a tang... will get very aggressive in there and wont be happy anyways

If you are up for a challenge, a copperband butterfly will be fine in a 55 gallon, just try to get one thats eating and provide proper hiding places, as well as appropriate tankmates.

thanks guys...i guess ill stay toward the smaller side.

the fish that i had that died from the move is a flame angel, yellow eyed kole tang(settled in very nicely and was with me for about 6 months) and a green clown goby.

so id like to change it up a bit. i would like a blenny.

i guess ill have to search around and see what comes to me.

thanks guys

have you considered the flasher or fairy wrasse family.. check out the post above this forum.. they're my favorite group of fishes...

Marvin

thanks for the posts...flasher wrasse could be a possiblilty. ive always liked bi-color blennies...just never found a healthy one.

thanks...lots of choices to make. :)
